The last part of your statement is NOT true. Some of these CD's are legally licensed, but not all. He's also producing CD's that he does not have the rights for. You mainly find them by watching the cheap/spartan layout that he just took off the demo booklets.
If a band complains about the bootleg he just sends them a backdated contract. THEN it's legally licensed. But I don't wanna know how many bands do not know about his dubious activities ...

The only reissue of theirs that I own is Threshold's 1993 EP, and it's a CD-R.

Doesn't really bother me, since even Cloven Hoof's Dominator reissue that I pre-ordered is an official CD-R. It came with a patch, too.

The lifespan of CD-R is rather limited. I've heard about an average of 12 years. This article says 10 years:

One way or another, I'm 42 years old and I plan to listen to metal until my death which I predict will come in approximately 50 years . Until then all my CR-rs will be able to function only as frisbies!

However, I haven't discovered yet any of my oldies to be unplayable, apart from some shitty bootlegs, I don't care about.

Yeah, most of them don't last that long. When you can make as many backups as possible, it's not really a problem.
