Pretty fond of the Chicago cover on Intruder's Escape From Pain EP. Odd pick but they metalize it pretty well.

Dresden's version was interesting.ION BRITTON wrote:HEIR APPARENT - The sound of silence

I actually quite enjoy both the Realm and Sacred Rite covers, but that one is good too (and apparently there's another comp I need to add to my want list).lynx wrote:I've heard several metal versions of "Eleanor Rigby", mostly boring, but this one is awesome:

The Anacrusis version rules and I never cared for anything New Model Army did, so what do they know?OmenOfSteel wrote:In an interview I read New Model Army didnt like this version at all. Makes me wonder as this is perfection.

Here are a few more of my favorites:
Riot - When I Was Young (The Animals)
Saxon - Ride Like The Wind (Christopher Cross)
Wrathchild America - Time (Pink Floyd)

The Realm, Anacrusis and Voivod covers are up there for sure!
Speaking of Eleanor Rigby, the awesome proto-Epic Metal band Thunderpussy did a cover of that in 1973 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KyUXV6ioho
I have always adored Slough Feg's cover of Dearg Doom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5n3oZyxjDoo
In fact the band does a smart thing with all their covers, picking songs that translate well into their own style and don't feel forced. Sometimes you hear covers that should work(Ozzy doing Sunshine of your love/King Diamond doing the Ripper) and they just don't. But that's all down to execution, had Sabbath done the Cream track back in 70's I'm sure it would have slayed.
Obviously Priest's Diamonds and Rust is amazing.
In Solitude did a pretty respectful cover of Cortex's ''Jesus i Betong'' a few years ago.
And for all the hate they get in trve metal circles I like most of covers Ghost has done quite a bit, another band that picks songs that translates well into their own style.

I like their version better than Saxon's take on the same song, they give the main riff the crunch it deserves.

Stones songs always seem to lend themselves to a good roughing up:

Most all The Rods material kicks ass. Saw them many times at the Penny Arcade when I was going to school at RIT. Dave is a pretty cool dude, he owns a restaurant . It was through him that I got to meet RJD a few timesLama wrote:Lately I've been listening a lot to "Wild Dogs" from The Rods. Their version of "You keep Me Hangin' On" is a highlight on that record (among many of them imo) :
