Defining the genres pt. I: Speed Metal
It's always interesting to hear how different people define different metallic sub-genres. One mans Power is another mans Heavy etc. Let's take one label at a time starting with, let's say: SPEED METAL
Pick 3 songs that you think define the genre. I'm NOT asking for your all-time favourite songs here, just those titles that always pop up in your head whenever you hear the words "Speed Metal".
My 3:
Conjuration of the Watcher - ORIGINAL SIN
Agents of Steel - AGENT STEEL
Evil Attack - FUTURE TENSE
...and I'm not saying there's a specifically "right" interpretation of these labels. I just wanna probe your heads a little.

Hm, it seems we have a pretty good consensus on what Speed Metal is all about. I remember when I first heard the term as a kid (years before I heard about Thrash or Death) - it was almost scary to think that there were bands out there who supposedly were even more brutal than ACCEPT, WASP and IRON MAIDEN. Everytime I hear the term 'Speed Metal' I still get that thrill and expectation of something brutal and forbidden. I just love that label for all the promises of Metallic bliss that it entails.
...and Fucking Åmål has the coolest nick ever. Salut! (killer movie too..)

Yeah! I remember that too! When thrash and speed came I though like what the fuck! Even seeing the covers from the last page of swedish magazine OKEJ(!) made me drool and get exited of all the scary pics. What was there... Warhead, Venom etc...DaN wrote:Hm, it seems we have a pretty good consensus on what Speed Metal is all about.
