The new No Remorse Records - Dubious Business Practices?
One thing about these major companies like EMI and Universal is that they have several local divisions which are almost like their own labels. I own CDs on Universal Sweden AB that cost over 60 euro in other countries, but here you can get them for something like 10-15 euro, this is because Universal Sweden did the distribution, and since the CDs are aimed at the Swedish population, they didn't bother distributing outside of Sweden, and the copies outside of Sweden were probably special order. Same goes for EMI Korea and Universal Korea, both labels have released CDs that I want but neither of them got distributed here, they did however appear in almost every shop in Korea when they were new.
It's just how it works. Do you think they would have had an overall successful distribution internationally of the Northwind CD, or the Dorso CD(s)? No. Because 99% of the fans of these bands, live in the same country of the band (or sometimes surrounding countries, depending on how the band toured and marketed themselves back in the day). I don't think any company would press 10000 or 15000 copies of for example Northwind and market it internationally, while the few of us non-Greeks that would appreciate it the majority would not care, and it's therefor not good business from the company's perspective. In the end that is all they care about, good business.

Jfernal's point of view sounds pretty close to the truth, at least when it comes to Northwind. I can see no succesful strategy and plan by these major labels neither on "Nortcomin" nor on "Mythology" , even if counting only on the local market. Especially the "Northcomin'" reissue (my mistake it was Universal and not EMI), seemed totally like an obligation the label couldn't avoid. Totally neglected in every aspect. It even has spelling mistakes!
At least "Mythology" was taken care by "NoRemorse" and had some reviews done in the local press and a pretty professional package and sound. I'm also convinced that even for this one (Mythology), EMI had no ambitions or vision at all, and it was just persuaded by No Remorse to bestow the rights to them without really having any faith on the product.

I don't know why you want this CD so bad anyways. The record is below average Hard Rock. I think the most probable cause to this whole "mystery" is that the CD sold out within greece and just like the Warlord anthology will eventually pop up for ridiculous prices from the same re-seller leeches trying to turn a profit.
By the way, I'm splitting and moving this thread after the original purchase request since the rest of the content dosn't belong in "Take It Or Leave It". /Mod

PS@Ion Britton (or other mod): Please change this title. It doesn't represent my points of view and it distorts what I said. It's also unjustifiably agressive and accusative to a legitimate label with hardly any evidences. If someone bears this opinions, should defend them himself and not under my name!!!

Much better now, thanks. I think it describes better what has been told so far.
Anyway...As I said in the past I can't be objective with the local bands but this is one of my favorite greek 80's metal albums. I am proud owner of the original cassete since early 90's but I must admit that the CD reissue looks and sounds even more desirable. But I'm aware that for the majority of metalheads outside Greece this might sound average or something.

well, and I'm searching for it just because I try to collect every hm/hr release on CD of the 80's, expecially from countries that are not USA/Germany/UK/Sweden....some of users on this forum know that I travel the world for 10 years now in search of local bands, local releases, and I have a big attention to the history of "minor" scenes such as Albania, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Mongolia...so it's not a matter of having the "forbidden fruit" as many other collectors. There is a difference between collectors and researchers. And I feel more like a researcher/historician than a collector. And this is one of the few cds I still don't have from Greece. That's it. And I'm trying to get it before the same people (=same seller on Discogs) rise up and up again the price
In any case, proofs or not: in Japan all the distro that I contacted (8, the biggest ones: Record Boy, Obliteration, Rock Avenue, Disk Heaven and others) told me that they never received the CD. Other european distro never received it. For me it still looks strange as it was never given a distribution outside Greece.
The only ones who always have a copy for sale are the same 2 greek sellers on discogs/ebay. Looks like these two guys together bought almost the 90% of the total printing....that's what makes me feel dubious. And if these are not facts, are not suspects either. Because it seems this is the only No Remorse title that has never been sent to any distro at all.

To my knowledge Northwind was only sold in No Remorse record store and web page. No wholesale copies to anyone. I missed it too and am looking for it.jnfernal wrote:well, and I'm searching for it just because I try to collect every hm/hr release on CD of the 80's, expecially from countries that are not USA/Germany/UK/Sweden....some of users on this forum know that I travel the world for 10 years now in search of local bands, local releases, and I have a big attention to the history of "minor" scenes such as Albania, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Mongolia...so it's not a matter of having the "forbidden fruit" as many other collectors. Never assume the taste of any metalhead. I quite like this album and have the lp for 15+ years, so...I am surprised the cd is so scarce but hell I can understand within Greece this album must hold a special place in metal history and is easily sold without export. Obviously it should be repressed.

This thread was specifically about no remorse though. Why are we trying to generalize it now? There is already a general thread about re-issues. It's quite obvious that you didn't start this thread.Priamos wrote:Much better now, thanks. I think it describes better what has been told so far.
How great an album is may be subjective but calling this "Metal" is an abomination. There's almost nothing heavy about it and it's quite commercial.Priamos wrote:Ha,ha...Now you sound like Prowler!Avenger wrote:I don't know why you want this CD so bad anyways. The record is below average Hard Rock.

As I said Jfernal was the one who questioned the practices of No remorse, not me. If he wants so, make him the thread starter of such a title. Otherwise, be "brave" enough to be yourself the starter of such a topic. One way or another, I don't want my name under such a title. What is so difficult to understand and respect in my claim?
PS. As a matter of fact, we discussed more about EMI, Universal etc than No Remorse.
PS2. Don't worry... I changed the title myself to something more appropriate that I'm sure that describes better the truth. One way or another, I'm the thread starter and I guess I'm entitled to pick the title myself. If the mods think that it is inappropriate title, feel free to delete or lock the thread but in NO WAY ALTER MY WORDS!!!!. There are international laws against such kind of actions that no nickname or anonimity can protect you!!! Trust me I can and I know how to act if I feel my reputation harmed.
PS3. Everyone, feel free to answer to the question of the title. I won't make any poll, though. Please use civilised language and reasonable arguments.
Why does this have to be about you? I cannot pick and choose what user I want to "start" a thread. I can only split it where a conversation takes place and start a new thread with that. You are asking the impossible of me.Priamos wrote:Avenger wrote:This thread was specifically about no remorse though. Why are we trying to generalize it now? Either way, if you are satisfied with the title we can leave it at that. I don't give a shit what some greek guys on the internet think about me. And regarding your legal threats, I'm seriously laughing at you. I've heard this a million times and it always results in nothing. You agree to the terms that the moderation of this board can alter anything written when you register your account.

I can't believe that I still have to put under dispute what is an unquestionable right of mine!!!! To (at least) agree with the words that are supposed to be expressed by myself!!! To believe that some other guy, doesn't have stronger rights than me on the words that are put under my name!!! I strongly defend and take responsibility of the opinions I express myself but obviously I'm not willing to do the same for other persons' points of view.
I'm not in the mood to quarrel with you or anyone but you said some bullshit. Here are some of the corroseum terms:
b)I don't know your background but your lack of knowledge makes me laugh, too. No "forum rules and terms" are stronger than the applicable laws. I never granted you the right to talk on my behalf and definitely the agreement in some (irrelevant) forum rules is not the legal way to do it.
c) Generally you are right that it's unlikely for someone to press charges for offences related to internet, especially when some foreigners are involved, but gets more likely and easy when the "victim" is a lawyer, policeman, etc or someone closely related to one of them.
Of course, I don't really care about shit like this. All I care is my sayings not to be distorted and to have the last word of what is put under my "signature". I'll change the topic title once again (to something that satisfies everyone and describes well the topic so far) and I hope you let it flow normally.

I got "Mythology" from stasco76 on Ebay at the end of December and I think he definitely had more copies for sale. Do you think he`s a friend of theirs?chatzial wrote: To my knowledge Northwind was only sold in No Remorse record store and web page. No wholesale copies to anyone. You're indeed a drama queen. Why are you afraid of what some guy behind a label thinks of you anyways? You're also forgetting that the "generally objectionable material" is based on the discretion of those moderating the forum, not you.Priamos wrote:I can't believe that I still have to put under dispute what is an unquestionable right of mine!!!! Regarding the legal crying, the server is based in Sweden and therefore these "applicable laws" are based on Swedish law. Just because you feel hard done by because of a thread title doesn't mean that the threads purpose is based entirely on your opinion. Again, this thread isn't about you. It's about a specific label. I don't care if you are a cop, a lawyer, the pope or the queen of england. This is not going to change.
