when i first heard the tudor 7" it was on 33... i thought it was some of the most twisted and evil stuff i heard, and was slightly let down when i realised it should be on 45

I love caffeine so I won't vote for that option, but I can't listen to records on anything but the speed they are made for, It just sounds too warped or something and I can't deal with it, I suppose If I have heard it on cd before or something I already know what its supposed to sound like so I wouldn't be able to fool my brain into thinking other speeds sound cool.

OK for every speed they were made of ,that speed i want to hear it too.
And if i understood well? This thread is more about what we like more speed or doom metal?Well i like am crazy about speed metal(with this genre i mean the bands that play just not mid-pace or slow without they are 100% thrash metal ) but i can't say i like doom or generally when metal is played slow. :(

The subject came up in another thread and made me remember all those times I've started out playing records at the wrong speed. The least uncomfortable listening experience for me was always when the music was speeded up. It made me wonder if this was my subconscious trying to tell me I'm more of a Speed Metal-fan at heart than a Doom Metal one - a choice I could never make consciously (hence the "blind-test")

I was not on drugs at time btw.

Yes on my old Dual Turntable ! I think they still produce Turntables with Pitchcontrol and they should not be too expensive.

The Speed can be varied for about 10% faster or slower.
So approximately from 30 to 37 rpm.

not bad at all. Imagine possibility would be ranging from 1 to 100 for example. But due to physical laws, the rotating part would probably get unstable, and who knows how would the pick-up react ...

erm ... the same for 45rpm? from 42 to 49?

Of course ! The goal of Pitchcontrol is to correct eventual errors in speed.
Some (Dual) Turntables plays also at 78rpm, so i think it will works also from 70 to 85rpm !
May not work for every turntable, because it exists 2 different ways for Pitching ! One works mechanically, the other electrically !
Anyway, already 3rpms more or less makes quite a difference !

PeterOtt was really on to something there: Classic Death Metal at 45 more than often sound dead-on 2nd Wavw Black Metal. There, we just figured out that whole fucking scene

I reminded myself now: Protector's Leviathan's Desire ... On which speed it should be played? 33 or 45? I think I ripped both versions. Except for change in pitch, I don't see any other difference ...

Can't say I've ever thought to try these little Metal experiments myself or done it by mistake ,although it's not Metal related , I do remember a music show in Australia back in the late 80's slowing down a Kylie Minogue 45 to 33 and it sounded like exactly Rick Astley (or "Rick Arsewipe" as Bruce Dickinson referred to him in the Maiden England video) - it wouldn't surprise me if it was one day revealed that he actually sings all her songs and they just speed it up.

heheh, I've chosen the third one, but I have to admit that some 33'ers sound better when I play them at 45rpm, really astonishing!!

*ultra-super-random-bump-of-ancient-fave-thread*

...so, what vinyl records do you consider "velocity-impaired" and in serious need of the 33/45-FlickOfTheSwitch-treatment? I'm off trying out DEVILS CHILDE at 45 this effin' instance! :D

Don't recall which one, but one of the LP's I played last week began mighty awesome after I had accidently switched it to 45. Well, until the vocals began and the helium manifested.

Shouldn't there be a vinyl speed guide on the site?
