Recommend great heavy 1 man band style hard rock/psych.

Post by doomedplanet »

I've been listening to these albums today and wonder if anyone can suggest some other stuff like it I should check out:

White Boy and the Average Rat Band "S/T"
George Brigman "Jungle Rot"
Vulcan 'Meet Your Ghost"
leland 'This is My World"

Brigman has more material I've yet to hear and I think Leland has another album.

Not at all. Average Rat Band & Leland were/are ace! Just racking my brain for a recommendation.

I foolishly didn't get a copy of the Vulcan 2lp that came out awhile back. It seems to have an entire lp of unreleased stuff, wonder how that sounds?

ok, maybe 1-man-band is too restrictive.

Does DWARR count as well?

Like the White Boy LP a lot, can't find an original copy though :( Don't know the others you mentioned.

Not sure what I could recommend that is similar and that you haven't heard. I'm sure you know DWARR; another fuzzy/heavy 1-man project, though much weirder than White Boy. Can't remember if JOE STEP was a 1-man project or a real band.

original White Boy LP is a bitch. I notice only one on popsike in 2006

I should check Joe step, I forget the story on that one.

I didn't include Dwarr since I don't think those albums are actually worth listening to. Maybe I should try again though, maybe revise my opinion.

Tough one to find i think. Just as OLIVERs "Standing Stone", a singer-song writer with a mixture of psych and folk rock.

there used to be a few other copies on popsike, more and more folks seem to be requesting their items be taken off that site. But yeah, a pain to find, and of course it sits high on my want list.

I've never made up my mind about DWARR; sometimes I play it and it's kinda cool, other times it sounds awful.

Dwarr I'm still on the fence, though it does fit into the category.

listening to Joe Step "Sacrifice" for the first time in probably a decade. Thanks for mentioning it. Forgot about this one and how good some of these songs are. Not sure it is a 1 man band because another name is mentioned on the credits for 5 of the songs.

Yeah, I don't remember the deal with that band/project either, but there are some killer tunes on that one. I recall 'Love' having a great hooky guitar line.

'Love' is the "hit" on this album for sure, though I would say with 2-3 songs cut out it would be a much stronger album.

The only one i know from your list is VULCAN and i think it's horrible.
JOE STEP is horrible too IMO.

A nearly 1-man band i like is Billy Joe'ls ATTILA.
But if you're not into heavy organ sound you can forget it.

I think it's fine apart from some corny lyrics.
