fuckin' Motörhead
Okay pals, now's the time for some praise. Everybody should tell their own story about why Motörhead just rules so hard!
One of my very first concerts were Motörhead when I was 14 years old. They started with "Doctor Rock", and that one bastard of a song just nailed the whole thing down. Immediately I realized clearly what rock 'n' roll is all about and there was no way back.
I love every single album by Motörhead, top favourites being probably Overkill and Orgasmatron. Also their newer albums are really good, especially Inferno which I think is the best one since "1916". Last time I saw them live couple of months ago in Helsinki, and they really slayed like they always do. Bomber was an opening number that night, and they also played a lot of other great tracks like Orgasmatron, Damage Case, Over the Top, I'll Be Your Sister etc..
Speak!

I like a fair amount of their stuff, but I don't consider any of it as amazing as most go on about. Most annoying is the hero worship of Lemmy and his crap lyrics, it is a big part of why I started liking the band less over the years, sick of hearing about it. Also that they are supposedly so essential, yet they are not even really metal per se.
Are you the tyrant, who cast them to the sea?

I just feel it seems so important to "understand" that Motörhead isn't Metal, while not as many would mind someone calling Diamond Head, Girlschool, Saxon, Witchfynde or even Samson the same thing. Heavy Metal need not begin with Manowar and end with Jag Panzer, there should be plenty room for Bombers, Locomotives, Sex and Outrage also.

Don't forget HAMMERHAWK.GJ wrote:Essential to Killer (Bel), Thunderfire, Shellshock, Vulcain anyway.

I've only got one LP by MH ("Iron fist") and only saw them once in 2009.
To me it's one of those bands you have to grow up with from your youngest days (like AC/DC or KISS), otherwise it's hard to get such an immense "feeling" for their music/lifestyle (imagine all that Lemmy copies walking the earth: same beard, same drinking behaviour etc.).
Nice band anyway.

I'm not saying Motorhead aren't metal because of their lyrics, if that's what you implied. I never paid any attention to them anyway, but from the few lines I've read they seem to fit with the music.GJ wrote:I just feel it seems so important to "understand" that Motörhead isn't Metal, while not as many would mind someone calling Diamond Head, Girlschool, Saxon, Witchfynde or even Samson the same thing. For me, Motorhead musically are a rock 'n' roll band. A few metal tracks in their 30+ year old discography don't make them metal. Coz in that logic Guns 'n' Roses can be called metal too since they do have a few metallic tracks... I do like both of them nontheless.

I saw them in 2011, I remember that day like yesterday hehe. I bought the ticket more expensive like 100 bucks... but fuck see god in the front row is priceless.
Motorhead is more than a simple Metal band, is fuckin punk, speed as hell, loud rock n roll savage!! ...the perfect mix

I don't give a rat's ass whether Motörhead is a metal band or not . They kick serious butt, that's all I'm concerned about.
One of the few bands I never get tired of seeing live, and have done so more times than I can remember.

saw 'em back in '96 and they annihilated the place.
Fun band, but TBH not one that I'm a huge fan of. Sold all my Motorhead vinyl and cds over the years, and just spliced together an mp3 'best of' for myself. Been content with that for about 7 years now. Like KISS< they're one of those bands that I like a lot of individual songs by, but there aren't any albums I really like from start to finish.
Just my opinion, not knocking the band.

What nightsblood said. I can make a 10-song 'Best Of' and never miss a Motorhead album ever again. Same with AC/DC for that matter
