No worries, and sorry if it seemed like I was biting your head off, that was not my intention. I just see more and more auctions trying to hype the item with lines like, "Not seen on ebay in ___ years" or "only the second time ever to appear on ebay" and it just bugs me. But I guess lots of people fall for it.weltbrand wrote: I'm aware of this, and I know that CF especially doesn't do a thorough archiving. Sorry for speaking in such absolutes.
Oh yeah, similar things happen regularly. I've noticed on several occasions that people will start rating the Sale Price of the copies archived on popsike during an auction in order to try and influence bidders. For example, let's say another copy of Zaxas gets listed today. The seller can go to popsike and rate the two previous sales (both well over $1,000) as being a Good Price for the Buyer. This makes potential bidders think those copies sold kinda cheap, and they should bid at least that much if not more! But any potential bidders can also rate the Price as Good For Seller. This makes other potential bidders think those two copies were too expensive and that they should bid less than that amount, thus reducing the likelihood of someone outbidding you. You gotta be really careful with how you interpret popsike data.apollo.ra wrote:
This reminds me the story of Artisan: Through till dawn LP that took place about 1 year ago.
That guy who writes in metalpage, Vaggelis, wrote a review for this LP, making it to sound like the most rare LP on the planet! It even gave it a rarity scale "6 - Outstanding metal gem"
Two weeks later sells a copy of it on ebay for 500$.
A week later the review changes and becomes a Rarity 5![]()

It happened to me as well today. One of the LPs he's selling that I had on my watch list has turned into a cassette recorder. Wtf?stormspell wrote:The strangest thing is, I had bookmarked a listing of SQUADRON - First Mission LP with this seller, but today when the reminder came, the listing miraculously had transformed into SONY WALKMAN (not working for parts only)... with the listing picture on the e-mail still showing the Squadron LP, but on eBay it is the walkman,,, very bizarre...
I have no idea, and the seller never responded to my inquiry...Khnud wrote:It happened to me as well today. If you mean vangelis is full of shit i would suggest you tone down your attitude a bit about people you dont know,i think theere is no reason to be like that towards fellow metalheds and i can assure you vangelis is one, regarding the fact that someone has decided to sell off his records and look for obscurities that can find nowhere on the net and then resell them is something that is beyond criticism,as everyone is free to do whatever he likes as long as he does not harm others,i apologise for the inconvenience but things had to get settled,no bad feelingsdaniel wrote:Regarding Vaggelis hyping that record, can't help but think he's full of shit, as he's mentioned buying every damn colour variation of records available, and then just selling them off later. I'm sorry, I don't get that, especially when someone says well I'm a COLLECTOR, I HAVE to... Yeah you had to buy them so you could sell them for more later, whatever.
