Razor is a awesome band....I was shocked how badly they were treated by the hard rock and heavy metal collectors books of the 1990's. Anyhow thank god for all those asshole poser books. I got to snag multiple copies of the Razor back catalogue, because most people can not tell the difference between what is rock and what is metal. I think it is funny that those who write books about heavy metal, are pop/ metal fans. All that wrong information, help me out alot when I started to collect CD's....It is like everyone forgot what they read in Kick Ass Monthly and Metal Forces, but only could remember what they read in Cream and Hit Parader...!! ha !!!!!!!!!!

Hey Avenger...

Kick Ass Monthly was the internet back then. America had that. And Europe had Metal Forces. If you read both fanzines, you had a excellent chance of having a good collection. KAM was heavy/ extreme metal based. Metal Forces featured alot of melodic acts, which had no place in the pages of Kick Ass Monthly.

There was other specialize press back then but the reason I like Kick Ass monthly back then was because his favorite bands were Motorhead and Metallica. Which was more than fine by me. Kick Ass was important because Muldowney knew alot of metallers wanted heavy metal heavier than Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. He was correct, in that Iron Maiden was metal but not HEAVY enough for the personal taste of his staff and readership.

I specifically scanned the pages of Kick Ass monthly for bands like Razor and Whiplash...etc...

Nah...I just have the same world view he had, that Randy Rhodes-era Ozzy, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden were not metal enough for his personal taste. And when I thought about i with sincere conviction. He was right at the time Raven/ Anvil/ Motorhead/ Tank/ Exciter/ Metallica/ Medieval/ Slayer...looked like the future of heavy metal.

That dude saved me alot of money because he was not afraid to say a band lack songwriting, originality or talent no matter if they played heavy/ speed/ power/ thrash/ death or black metal.

Alot of collector error's could be avoided, buy really pay attention to what he was saying about what is heavy metal and what is just hard rock arena artist.

I never agreed with everything Bob Muldowney said...I really loved high pichted vocals, and I love Mercyful fate, Attacker, Watchtower, Dark Age, Nasty Savage with all those haunting melodies.

I loved how he always had the idea that a band can not be too heavy or too fast. So I was open to the idea, of looking for artist that lay all the poser contenders and pretenders to waste.

Muldowney was not the only one with the Death to False metal idea. Metal Blade records had it, stamped all over the metal massacre series. And so did Manowar on there 1984 Hail to England album. I do find it funny that Metallica championed this idea, considering the music released after the black album.

Dude when you first saw the words A journalistic poser holocaust, that was some funny stuff considering how political incorrect the phrase holocaust is even back when that magazine started. I am proud to have that positive influence in my life.

*******************************************************

No subliminal messages, a magazine that that the slogan " A Journalistic POSER Holocaust", is more than blatant, that they were a heavy metal magazine that supported awesome/ killer/ KICK*ASS metal....The name was KICK*ASS MONTHLY, but you knew the genre METAL was implied.

Love this band. I found Executioners Song in the flea market a couple of years ago, in a heap of greek crap and Robin Trower records. Unfortunately it had a Bryan Adams record inside, I was so disappointed i didnt even get the cover.
