Albums similar to "Mark of the Beast"?
I find "Mark of the Beast" to be one of the best Manilla albums, even though this music is on the borderline of what`s generally considered as heavy metal. Can you recommend LPs in the vein of "Mark.." then? I`m talking about more epic stuff like "Avatar" rather than those merry tunes that can be heard in "Teacher".

It's probably more metallic than Mark of the Beast, but have you ever heard the Blue Max' album "Limited Edition"? It's from 1976 and it has some really great stuff on it. It reminds me, at least to some extent, of Manilla Road.

"March of the trolls", from this album, is a fine example of early epic metal like you said.Nevertheless, I have my doubts about the recording date of the bonus tracks (like "Tomorrow's Dream", the u tube link you posted). In the CD reissue no date is mentioned for them and the sound is far too modern for late 70's.great_knuthulhu wrote:It's probably more metallic than Mark of the Beast, but have you ever heard the Blue Max' album "Limited Edition"? Anyway here is another obscure late 70's recommendation from me:
ICE-Saga of the ice king

and some more from the 80's:
Breaker-In Days of Heavy Metal

March of the Trolls is a godly tune, excellent stuff. I understand why you put the date in doubt here; it does sound a bit too "80's" to be from 1976.Priamos wrote:"March of the trolls", from this album, is a fine example of early epic metal like you said.Nevertheless, I have my doubts about the recording date of the bonus tracks (like "Tomorrow's Dream", the u tube link you posted). Good call on Full Moon, but I would say that one sounds a bit closer to the first two MR albums rather than Mark of the Beast. It has some very strong Hawkwind influences there, as does early MR.

That song is completely different from the album material.great_knuthulhu wrote:It's probably more metallic than Mark of the Beast, but have you ever heard the Blue Max' album "Limited Edition"?
