Why have all you gotten with MADISON because they were ``famous´´.Their first album is a heavy metal monument with some of the best guitarrists i have heard in my life.

Look the statement of Christer Goransson singer of MINDLESS SINNER
The humble vocalist also points on that there were more examples than Mindless Sinner.
- That a band like Madison never got a breakthrough is a scandal. It’s like 40 times better than ”Turn on the Power” if you know what I mean.

Yeah, two unbearable ballads and eight killer melodic metal tracks = quite a darn good LP.

But i certainly will. The guitar intro and outro on "Mental asylum" is simply skullcrushing. You won't find such demented noise soloing in any other US metal release. Totally aggressive riffing on "Taken ground" and "Another bite". And a really heavy feeling on both "Leather Nunn" and "Mental Asylum". If you want a comparison , well, then they sound like early MOTLEY CRUE bastardized with the heaviest moments of JUDAS PRIEST. As far as the vocals are concerned: The singer certainly hasn't got the most brutal voice in the US scene, but i can't call him a melodic one either. Examples of melodic singers are: Midnight, Ray Alder, Geoff Tate, Tony Moore, Tim Lachmann (Gargoyle) etc. Does he really sound so melodic as these guys? For me absolutely not.
Yeah I agree with that, but still I also must say that Leather Nunn music is melodic. What you call "Heavy metal holocaust" I call it power ful and energetic. Perhaps it is just a matter of terms.

If you compare Wade with Tate of Midnight, he might sound raw, but if you compare him with Jeff Becerra or Chuck, he sounds melodic, even soft. I would compare him with a great vocalist like JD Kimball who had this raw edge but lots of melody.

Motley Crue and Judas have lots of melody, arent they?

I'm quite surprised that nobody mentionned BODINE in this thread. They had released 3 wonderful albums.
I like their melodic metal with this incredible bluesy voice (sounds like an un-gay David Coverdale)

Just curious if anyone can recommend anything similar to Pretty Maids' "Red, Hot and Heavy" LP I've really grown a liking to this of late. Something that still has elements of aggression that balance the melodic songs/passages.

Thanks.

Spontainiously I come to think of 2 other classic Danish LPs, WITCH CROSS and MIRAGE. They play fairly similar stuff and are easily as great (WC perhaps being the best of the 3) but you might already know them. Will sleep on it and come up w/ more recommendations tomorrow. I really dig that sound as well.

Thanks for the recommendations a friend kept going on about Witch Cross about a year ago I was meant to check them out but forgot. Anyway will be sure to check these out and anymore you can recommend  .

I always notice you saying you're on old Accept lover :P on the topic of great melodic metal albums what do you think of Russian Roulette? (My personal favorite Accept release along with Restless and Wild).

About Pretty Maids though pity they went in the more poppy direction with each new release. Am still to hear the s/t MLP but it's at the top of my list. How does it size up to Red, Hot and Heavy?

????Why you call this melodic metal? If melodic metal is Gravestone then i have nothing more to say.Gravestone at least for me play total 80's HEavy Metal like very few(is there actually anyone?) have played so good.
You might save your ''Melodic Metal'' tag for the post-Gravestone band 48 Crash which had more commercial elements than Gravestone but still the talent lever looses.I believe 48 Crash reminded of the later German Power Metal movement.Anyway glad that someone loves Gravestone apart from me and Jose.

I don't understand your wording, are you saying no one has ever played as good as gravestone? If so that is a laughable claim,Back to Attack and Creating a Monster are nothing more than some poppy heavy metal and there is nothing special about it.

Haha tastes are tastes. For one year i believed Gravestone was the best band ever. But now it's let's say one of my 5 faves. But poppy HM?For me HM as a meaning is bands like Tyrant,Mortician,Stormwave,Maniac,Gravestone,Wallop,Speed Limit... nothing less nothing more. That teutonic sound is my weak spot...
