EPIC IRAE (Sweden) - Ballet of Desolation (demo tape 1990)

Post by GJ »

So here's the first stumbling steps by the band that was to become Quicksand Dream. It was recorded during the Christmas holidays in 1989-90 on a four track porta studio. Download and cringe?

Be gentle, the next step (One Cloudy Day - 1991) should (partially, that is) be a huge leap forward.

Oh, and the first and second songs are on the same file since they were connected.

Finally.

When can we expect the next demo to be uploaded?

Oh, and thank you.

dl-ed *and* listened so thanks for both! lousy in describing music I am, but honestly this is great stuff - maybe you are a tiny bit overmodest.. hell the way you announced it I was expecting something like A.O.K. or the average 15yos-falling-down the cellarstairs-deathnoise we all "played" back then and thankfully no one will ever get to hear :D

np the 2nd one. and looking forward to that Quicksand Dream LP!

Haha! Nah, as for the cringing I guess it's all about my personal view on the vocal performance, especially where I lose contact with the played rhythm and tempo. It makes me wonder, why we didn't do another take?

On the QD vinyl: yeah I kind of look forward to get my hands on it myself... looks pretty nice I think.

Exellent demo! Music just to my taste! No problems with vocals either. Reminded a bit like the guy freom Nausea (NY).

Kiitos!

Nausea - how appropriate, that's just how I feel at some passages. :D

I still think you should try to get a release on this GJ. It's really good and would appeal to quite a few people.

Not sure about this, Knut. I do believe we had some really good ideas and cool intentions, but the overall judgement of both these demos are somewhat put to down by occasional very weak performances in the vocal, and sometimes instrumental performances. This would probably make me want to write a list of excuses to go along with the (imaginative) record - and that isn't very cool.

I realize a certain pickiness comes from me being part of the creation of this music. But how does these things bother others? Is it OK to release substandard material just because some other material are really good? I wouldn't want to omit songs either since that would destroy the historical correctness of the work. (Well, Patrick had the "fun" outro song off One Cloudy Day cut out. It's actually hillarious, but probably only appeals to the four of us) Even if it's old stuff and sins you'd still want people to enjoy it to some extent and not go: "the riffs were ok but that singer deserves to be shot!" :D
