My fave band for the past couple of years - I just can't get enough of the original line-up era. I gave my vote to 'The Curse' since the first two are already well supported
and I think this record is really equal to it's predecessors - the songs: Holy Martyr, Teeth Of The Hydra and Destiny... pure killer!
Here's an old review of Battle Cry from Kerrang (thanks to owner of mygalleryofrockandmetal blog):

Kerrang was of course put on the 'Fuck You' list on Warning Of Danger album
If anyone has any other magazine articles, interviews and clippings of original Omen line-up and is willing to share I would be very grateful.
Finally got to hear Into The Arena: 20 Years Live a couple of weeks back and the quality of lives is quite good (same as from the box set) - now one of my biggest wishes is to hear the whole San Antonio 1986 show.
If anyone is interested - I have a couple of mp3s of advance recordings for the Warning Of Danger album. I don't know who the original uploader is, but a million thanks to him!!! I recommend this to all the fans of original Omen - J.D.'s voice is really killer on these. Just PM me or write in this topic and I can send it to you.

could have voted equally for the first 3,i went for WoD though cause has more hits for my taste
i remember having the chance to play in the same festival still with my former band with Omen like 4 years ago, Kenny was the coolest person i ever met, partying with him 3 days straight, non stop vodka drinking and just acid humor made one of the best metal-experiences-meet-a-true-metal-guitarrist-become-your-pal in my life, he ended up calling me and my bandmates "my sons" after the terrific alcoholic warriorish time we had back them.
Omen will be always one of my fave US bands

Heavy: Hey thanks for this review, really interesting haha. I can't find it on the web, but on the re-release of Battle Cry there is a flyer from 1986 that say:
"Tired of bands that are
better looking than
your girlfriend ?
We have the answer:
OMEN"

Ooh, I actually remember that Omen review. And I remember Mark Putterford, since he always gave great reason to question why he was ever hired to write for Kerrang. Even the rest of the writing staff there used to put him down for a wimp if I remember correctly.
The worst about it was probably that they had more AOR/mainstream rock fans than him writing for them.

I know I ain't doing much,
doing nothing means a lot to me.

The first three is where it's at. My favorite is Battle Cry with Warning of Danger a close second. The Curse is a bit more uneven, but it does have their best song "Teeth of the Hydra".
Escape to Nowhere and Reopening the Gates are both terrible, terrible albums in different ways.
Eternal Black Dawn was a return to form and had a couple of good songs but lackluster on the whole. Nothing like the first three for sure and far behind the reformation works of other US metal heroes like Manilla Road, Agent Steel and Attacker for example.
We'll see what the next one brings.

fuck yeah, "torture me" is my favorite track of theirsNasty Uwe wrote:I wished I had lived back then.DeathMetalWeenie wrote:Plus at the time of its release, I thought the singer had a original sounding timbre, and at least to me J.D. Kimball was a one-of-a-kind vocalist.![]()
But I totally agree on Kimball's voice - he had this melancholic tone, I think it came straight from the bottom of his heart.
Besides the complete "Battle cry" LP the song "Torture me" is one of my alltime faves.
that flyer is hilarious, and those kerrang reviews are a load of shit
