Metal Compilations
Metal Compilations
Don't know if there is already a thread about that.
I would like to know what are your favorites Metal Compilations ?
I don't know that much but here are some that I like :
METAL MASSACRE I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII (feat. too many bands)
RAGING DEATH (feat. R.A.V.A.G.E., Xecutioner, Sadus, etc.)
SPEED KILLS Vol. I, II, III (Full of classics)
MASTERS OF BRUTALITY (feat. Morbid Angel, Death, Dismember, Massacre, Carcass...)
NORDIC METAL - A Tribute To Euronymous (feat. Mayhem, Dissection, Thorns, Marduk, Emperor...)
SCANDINAVIAN METAL ATTACK (famous for Bathory and Oz)
And that's all I think...
Tell me your favs
Bonus debates: Do you think that it is still (today) a good tool to promote bands ? Or it became totally useless ?

The 3 volumes of US Metal compilations, they have some killer songs.
The Moose Molten Metal series are also quite interesting.
Don't forget to read The Corroseums own compilations list with reviews: http://www.thecorroseum.com/comps/index.html

You can make many great discoveries through comps, here are some of my faves at the moment:
Cleveland Metal (Black Death, Sacred Few, Shok Paris w/ different singer...)
Dutch Steel (Allied Forces, Martyr...)
French Connection (Steel Angel, Dygitals...)
Metal Meltdown 2 & 3 (many, many great unknown bands)
Pacific Metal Project (Myth, XINR)
....and many more.

It does help having some of my alltime favourites on these.
I do think it's still a valid concept. The internet itself is too big to listen to everything so a compilation album is still a good way to promote some bands.
