"Spartan" themes in HM lyrics preferably from 80's
By John 's request: In this thread we are searching for songs whose lyrics where inspired by once mighty ancient Greek polis of Sparta, known for notorious military-supersaturated social construction and extraoridnary cruelty that has emerged from it (or was the other way round?). To put it shorter we're looking for laconophilia in Heavy Metal lyrics.
PS: Titles of instrumentals also count.

One beer at next KIT from me to the one who names 5 songs from the 80s that have to do with Spartans. The only one I can think of is SOUND BARRIER's Gladiator but the only thing that it says is He came from the city of Sparta Some say he's the best . Tough one.

Isn't there at least one song by Spartan Warrior about the subject?
I can't think of any. But if it doesn't directly mention Sparta, I wouldn't know if it dealt with it anyway. Greek, Roman en Viking history aren't up my alley of interest. Colonization and slavery are my favourite lyrical subjects, but those are rare as well.

Don't remember any track of theirs with that name. And judging from the names of others probably none of them deals with Spartans. Them posers!Black Axe wrote:Isn't there at least one song by Spartan Warrior about the subject?![]()

As far as I know Spartacus wasn't a Spartan.anthares wrote:This one is killer!

I'm now reading again SOUND BARRIER's lyrics and I think they're too talking about Spartacus on that song. Too bad coz he didn't 'came from the city of Sparta'.

Spartacus is a far more popular subject in heavy metal.ION BRITTON wrote:As far as I know Spartacus wasn't a Spartan.anthares wrote:This one is killer!

When I first read the topic title Steel Assassin's Spartacus came to mind, but I didn't think he came from Sparta. I was right.
