SIREN 1991 demo?

Post by bigfootkit »

A guy i've been corresponding with regarding some trades has a Siren demo listed which i've never heard of before.
It's listed as "1991 Demo" and apparently contains four tracks :
01. Far Away
02. Take It Now
03. Evil Cloud
04. Straight Jacket
I'm no expert on the band, but i know there are several Siren fiends around these parts, can anyone tell me anything about this, and whether it's genuine or not?
I thought Doug Lee had disbanded the group by 1991 and was by then a member of Mekong Delta, or is my time frame out?
Any help much appreciated.

Actually SIREN's saga is quite complicated. The band is still active today, with original founder and songwriter Rob Philips on helm

They even have two self-released albums after Doug left:

Don't Mind (2007)
You Never Noticed (2008)

What-what-anna-what-what?
I knew none of that!
In light of these revelations, (they're "revelations" to me at least!), it now sounds at least possible that the demo's genuine.
Anyone able to fill in any more?

Never heard of those two albums. Are they real albums on CD or just some mp3 "releases"?

I was given the 2008 album and it was a factory made silver pressed CD. But how many were pressed and if it was actually distributed anyplace - I have no idea. I havent asked because the album did not appeal to me at all. I was only interested in re-releasing the old demos.

As you can guess, the music had nothing to do with the old Siren we all know. It is "progressive hard rock" as Rob self-described it. To me in sounded more like modern rock which would not appeal to the majority here, as far as I can judge. Although I may be wrong.

P.S. I just tried to find the cd and share some sound samples, but I've moved recently and it must be in one of the countless boxes in my storage space and I don't have time to go dig for it right now. I can do that once I'm back from my European trip.

We take your word for it and it's no surprise at all. Only a fool or a dreamer or both would expect another "No Place Like Home" which is one of my personal favorites. Total unique sounding album with some over the top songwriting. Better save your time to find the old demos...

Thanks for the info Stormspell, i won't allow myself to believe that the newer Siren material could match the music from the past, but i'd still be interested to hear it.
The guy with the alleged "1991 Demo" says he'll upload it for me.
So If there is any interest here in hearing it i can repost the link in Poisonoise once he gets back to me @ the weekend.

Here you can listen to the Siren "You never Noticed" album: http://m.mop.com/albums_9711100.html

Hard to find any info on these albums anywhere on the net.

Thanks Psychodad, there's some good playing on there for sure, but overall it's a bit too radio-rock and mainstream for my tastes.
Thanks for the chance to listen to it though!
