I missed out on Der Kaiser due to drinking-obligations but I caught half of Blood Feast. I don't have any albums but their crazy Thrashing was a cool kick in the teeth compared to some other more laid back acts playing before them. Great energy on stage too.anthares wrote:How was Der Kaiser and Blood Feast??

My first time at HoA and I had an absolute ball. I haven't been to many festivals, but the atmosphere here was the best I've experienced.
As for the bands, my favourites were:
Solitude Aeturnus: I like the albums, but live they were so much more powerful and heavy. Just what I needed at that stage of proceedings.
Omen: Killer set list (first 3 LPs only) and a performance to match. That said, the show in Hamburg the following night was better still. Solid bunch of blokes as well.
Blood Feast: A bit like Solitude Aeturnus really - no, not musically - in that I like the albums but live they were much more convincing. Totally raging speed that broke up all the standard heavy metal nicely.
Jameson Raid: Quality heavy rock played by old blokes who weren't just going through the motions but were actually enjoying playing. Killer crowd at midday as well.
Roxxcalibur: Played some of my favourite sing along NWOBHM numbers. Can't ask for more than that.
Shok Paris were good (again, better the following night in Hamburg), as were Raven. For various reasons I only saw some of Culprit, Tygers of Pantang, Battleaxe and Amulance and they seemed okay, though none were bands I was dying to see. Demon kinda bored me.
Destruction were awful. An 'old school' set featuring at least 2 new songs, shitty vocals and triggered drums.
From a band's point of view, the organisation was first class. Hell's Pleasure could really learn a thing or two from how HoA go about business. Obviously each festival is different, but in terms of communication and looking after bands HoA are lightyears ahead.
