Finally got to hear this Shiva stuff. I have to say, I LOVE Firedance, but this album I wasn't too amazed with. While it's still very good, It seems lacking. The writing, the production, everything seems like it lost some spirit. What do you think?

Hi there MU, to be fair, i think you have to bear in mind that "Continuance" is basically a collection of demos, and the unfinished recordings for their second album, and as such doesn't perhaps hang together in the same way as a regular studio album.
As an odds and sods collection, i think it's a pretty good listen overall.
It's far softer sounding than their unique debut for sure, but the compositions are interestingly structured and the playing of the same high calibre as before.
There are several high points for me, that only really became apparent after many repeated listens.
Maybe you just need to live with it for a while to get into it?
Not for everyone then, but there's much to enjoy about it if you set your expectations below the majesty of "Firedance".

I must say I like much of the Continuance stuff even more than Firedance. It has some kind of flow which may lack in the debut. It has great vocals, great writing - and also very pleasant sound production on the five (if memory serves...) properly recorded songs. Also I like the way it keeps me on my toes, making me go "Wait a minute! Which Rush song am I listening to right now?" all the time. :D

Yeah, the Rush "influence" is pretty undeniable.

My pleasure Omen.
To me, the BBC session shows No Quarter in a very favourable light, this is probably the best the original band ever sounded in a studio.
And that Tellurian record is my current obsession, i'm playing it every day at the moment. It's a damn shame we'll never hear any more material from them.

What's up with that TELLURIAN 7" anyway..? I remember eagerly awaiting its release and suddenly hearing it was sold out in an instance :x
Can't say I've ever seen a copy for sale, anywhere. Did they do a T.o.M. or wut?

I've seen copies for sale recently on a few sites, don't think they were too expensive either. Sorry, but i can't remember exactly where i saw them though.
What is a "T.o.M." then?
