Oh just remembered that Tad Morose's Undead came in 2000. Crappy album cover but great music.

There are lots of albums people have mentioned that I really like so not going to repeat them at this point, maybe another day. I'll add these two for now though:

REVELATION - "...Yet So Far"
WARNING - "The Strength To Dream"
Are you the tyrant, who cast them to the sea?
One day you'll be among the dead.

Though not on par with the 80s, there are still plenty of great albums from these years. Post-2000 is when things drop off for me. Some numbers for comparison:

95-00: about 30 Top-Notch albums (listed below)
00-10: about 15 Top-Notch albums
That's half as many in a period twice as long. And 1/3 of them are by just 2 bands (Stormwarrior & Kamelot)

Here's my 95-00 list (may be off on a year here or there)

1995:
Blind Guardian imaginations from the other side
Dissection storm of the light’s bane
Iced Earth burnt offerings
Saint Vitus die healing
Naglfar vittra
Nocturnal Rites in a time of blood and fire
Running Wild masquerade

1996:
Cemetary black vanity
Acid Bath pagan terrorism tactics
Dark Tranquility mind’s I
Social Distortion white light white heat white trash
Solitude Aeturnus downfall

1997:
Misfits American psycho
Royal Hunt paradox

1998:
Blind Guardian nightfall in middle earth
Dawn slaughtersun
Labyrinth return to heaven denied
Edguy vain glory opera
Iron Head second to none
Nightwish ocean born
Virgin Steele invictus

1999:
Anathema judgment
Edguy theater of salvation
Kamelot fourth legacy
Breaker Accept
Immortal at the heart of winter
Misfits famous monsters
Solstice new dark age

2000:
My Dying Bride light at the end of the world
Primordial spirit the earth aflame

No love for GRAVEN IMAGE "Emperor Of Eternity"? Fantastic epic metal with lots of MANILLA ROAD influences, released only on CD, but there's also a vinyl release two years ago from High Roller Rec that includes the "Game Of Iron" EP as well. For me a top five album of this period.

I never got around to hearing that one, I remember it looked interesting when the vinyl reissue came out, but I never followed up on it

No surprise it's not mentioned but Northwinds - Great God Pan is one of my all time faves. Have to second New Dark Age by Solstice as one of the real greats too.

Also,
Tyrant - King of kings
TTD - The curse of...
Slough Feg, Forsaken and Cauldron Born spring to mind from that period, though it's not all that good for metal IMO.

I really need to get that Graven Image LP from what you say about that Sgt. Kuntz. Never heard that.
I know I ain't doing much,
doing nothing means a lot to me.

@nightsblood & great_knuthulhu:

Strange thing with that band, i recommand it in levity, because i'm always absolutely sure that fans of MANILLA ROAD and epic metal in general should ejoy that album as i do. I'm not too sure if it does in the end or if it just hits my personal taste, don't know. Just a real personal favorite of mine and the double album from high roller is still not hard to find (ignore the cover, it's really bad), so you i hope you won't crucify me if you don't like it. 8)
