Polish recomendations!?

Post by Korgüll »

Apart from the well-known Polish bands such as: TURBO, MAGNUS, KAT, VADER, GRAVELAND... (these last two I couldn't really care about) ..who else can you all recommend!???

And would you say the Polish hard rock/metal scene equals or betters the Czech or Russian scenes???

Alastor,Betrayer,Dragon,Egzekuthor For Thrash Metal

Good ones not mentioned yet are DESTROYERS (specially the first two in polish language), STOS and WILCZYC PAJAK.

About the comparsion to Czech or Russian Scene, hard to say, each of those countries has at least one outstanding band for me, Poland has TURBO, Czech Rep has CITRON, Russia has KRUIZ.

I wouldn't put the Polish scene quite up there with the Czech and Russian scene, mainly because I haven't found as many original and outstanding bands from there, but still.. TURBO's "Dorosle Dziechi" and "Kawaleria Szatana", KAT's "666" and QUO VADIS' s/t LP (more people need to check this one out!) are all crushing Metal classics. The OPEN FIRE-songs on the O.F./STOS split LP are pretty much a must-hear too. And the DESTROYERS debut too perhaps..

There's not that many barely known/"über-rare" releases from Poland are there? For instance, does anyone know of any more singles of interest apart from the KAT 7"s? Just curious...

VOODOO with their one and only "Heavy metal voodoo" LP of 1987 are mandatory for fans of raw heavy metal played the Polish way.

Well already have been mentioned the outstanding bands, but I would add CETI, a very good band in my opinion, going from Speed Metal to commercial stuff. :D

Essential! Great record.

Some days ago I got the debut of NON IRON, good stuff, even if it was more hard rock than heavy metal. Including the TURBO mainman Wojciech Hoffmann.

About rare 7"s, there is a TURBO 7" from their early days, but that's more (hard) rock than anything else.
Fun records

How about Dragon, Hammer, Alastor and Geisha Goner. They may not be top-notch, but I suppose they are somehow inevitable ...

seconded on the egzekuthor, esp that first demo

if you're into death metal, try:

thrasher death
slashing death
prosector
vader (obvious pick, but the demos fucking rule and are worth a mention)
merciless death
separator
scarecrow
nuctumeron

some of these are rather rough around the edges sound quality wise, but that adds to the charm, i suppose

now this is my turn here. Listen to the unholy Polish trinity of Baron Records, Carnage Records and Loud Out Records and get basically all of their releases. Incredibly great Polish Death/Thrash Metal on nearly all (equals 85%) of their hundreds of taperelases. (http://www.geocities.com/peterott/labels.html)

Ahret Dev -> killer Death Metal
Anathemized -> mix of Bolt Thrower and Gorement. Great demo
Armagedon -> killer Death Metal
Ascaris -> dito
Celebration -> on Dead Bodies Massacre demo it sounds like Morbid Angel meets Delirium (Nl)
Clandestine -> similar to old Hell-born.
Corruption -> their old demos are perfect DeathDoom with stressing on Death.
Cryptic Tales -> one superb demo "Anathema" from '92. Swedish DeathDoom.
Danger Drive -> Darkness Comes... '92 demo. wroammm Death Metal with a blast. Strong Morbid Angel influences but rules so much.
Equinox -> great DeathThrash
Esqarial -> in case you like some Schuldiner-like Death
Ghost - more brutal than Vader on their CD, and very good demos
Hazael -> the most Swedish sounding Döds Metal band. Incredible Sunlight-like demos
Imperator -> their LP rules so much, the opener Eternal Might shreds current Slayer to pieces
Merciless Death -> great Thrash Metal
Morbid Insane -> like old Sodom
Mutilation -> doing the Bolt Thrower dance
Necrolust -> yeah, more Morbid Angel like Death Metal
Pandemonium - a dream DoomDeath band. Awesome demos and debut CD. Now they are playing something in the vein of Samael with lots of electronics mixed with DoomDeath, just a HUNDRED TIMES better than anything Samael did since Eternal. Absolutely godly. Also when they had to change their name to "Domain" in the 90es and released 3 nice CDs.
Preludium -> wroammmmmm Satanic Death Metal, I am lacking words
Pyorrhoea -> like Vomitory without the Crust.

Polish Death Metal tapes ? I can't resist...

Yeah, that Thrasher Death - Women Die demo is great!! How about their other releases (if any)? And Exorcist, what are they like? Probably more HC/crossover-ish thrash metal?

although i have not have heard much of Polish metal TURBO rulez.
Second take CETI-Lamjastrata( 8) ) good turboish stuff but not so aggressive like Kawaleria Szatana.
I also like the first demo by Magnus-Power Metal,ALASTOR and the new band Crystal Viper.Need search more into Pl scene but i am not hurry.
