Nihilist: Call down the thunder

NIHILIST erinnern nicht zuletzt wegen der Stimme von Sänger Loren Tipton etwas an CIRITH UNGOL. Die Musik geht etwas mehr in Richtung alte JUDAS PRIEST (hat der Sänger seinen Nachnamen zufällig gewählt?), aber etwas härter gespielt. Für Fans total verfrickelter US-Bands ist NIHILIST sicher nichts. Das Songwriting geht geradeaus und der etwas dumpfe Sound gibt dem ganzen etwas leicht kauziges. Interessantes Album, wenngleich natürlich noch Spielraum nach oben ist und noch ein paar mehr Killersongs nicht schaden könnten. Die Ausstattung der CD ist mit dem etwas dürftigen Booklet nicht allzu aufwendig, aber zumindest hat man nettes metallisches Cover gewählt. Meine Anspieltips sind "Devastator" und "Vengeance is mine".

A little bit of CIRITH UNGOL (vocals) and JUDAS PRIEST (music...and the last name of the vocalist) are the ingredients for the style of NIHILIST. Powerful songwriting without the typical US-Metal-attitude to create songs which include a lot of riffs, breaks and technical ambition. So if you are into straight-forward Metal NIHILIST will be probably fit to your taste. Still there is some space for improvement in songwriting because some real killer-hooks are missing, but its a very promising debut-album contains a nice coverartwork and with the next CD maybe the booklet also will contain lyrics and some more information to satisfy also the collectors. For a first impression try: "Devastator" and "Vengeance is mine".
