Executioner: In the night

Dieses privat hergestellte Vinyl findet man auf diversen US Metal Suchlisten obwohl es da gar nicht so direkt hingehört. Mit straightem US Metal haben diese Executioner aus Kalifornien nicht sonderlich viel am Hut. Vielmehr würde ich mutmaßen, dass sie eher der Punk Gemeinde abstammten. Jene waghalsige Vermutung bestätigt schon ein flüchtiger Blick auf das Bandfoto. Wenn ihr das Cover erstmal irgendwo zu Gesicht bekommt, dann schießt euch automatisch Azra/Iron Works durch den Kopf, mehr noch, das Artwork zu "In the night" sieht dem der Kronen MLP ziemlich ähnlich. Aber genug zu den Äußerlichkeiten, ran an die Buletten, sprich die Musik. Obwohl Executioner ganz eindeutig Punk Metal spielten, würde ich dieses Album als gar nicht mal sooo schlecht einschätzen. Was mich als Metaller nerven würde, ist einzig und allein Dave ihr Sänger mit seiner weinerlichen Stimme. Das Songwriting wurde recht gitarrenorientiert gestaltet, was wohl daran lag, dass Bill an der Axt sein Handwerk außerordentlich gut verstand und ich handwerklich klare Vergleiche zu Mistreater (Kalifornien) ziehen muss. Jedenfalls würde der beste Songs auf der MLP "Free and innocent" auch auf deren LP gepasst haben, aber auch jene Mistreater hatten ein gewaltiges Sängerproblem, nur dass es bei Executioner eben so gewollt war. "Talk of the world" ist der einzige schnellere Song, der Rest bewegt sich im Midtempobereich irgendwo zwischen angepunkten und (teilweise sogar power)metallischen Strukturen. Nicht auszudenken wenn Bill in einer Metalband sein Können zum Besten gegeben hätte...wir hätten uns die Finger danach abgeleckt! Aber so muss ich jedem der seinen Metal pur ohne andersartige Influences mag, dringendst davon abraten "In the night" zu ordern. Nur für openminded people geeignet!

Quite a wanted item on several US Metal lists that looks like an Azra/Iron Works output (cover artwork looks similar to Kronen's MLP) but the record itself doesn't really fits to that
genre at all. Even though these Executioner from Kalifornia had a strong Metal influence they also had a Punk background (just take a look at the band pic), maybe they even started as pure Punk band and later added more Metal influenced structures, who really can say that? Besides the minor Power Metal influence there's mainly dominating a midpaced not even bad Metal/Punk mix with slightly irritating vocals that makes the record the most unbearable for pure Metal fetishists. With a true Metal singer I'm sure this could sound alot more faszinating thanx mainly to the positive guitar work of Bill who's technic isn't a mile away from the californian Mistreater while the best track "Free and innocent" could have been easily on their selftitled LP released the same year as "In the night". With "Talk of the world" there's also a speedy track featured while the rest is caught in midtempo in general. I wouldn't advice this album to fans of pure Metal, it's just something for openminded people, even though it's a private pressing, the purists will for sure have a problem with these Executioner.
