Dieses rare Vinyl-Teil gibt es mittlerweile auch als CD so dass der interesserte Rosanetzhemdchenträger nicht mehr so tief in die Tasche greifen muss, um heimlich vor'm Spiegel sämtliche Poison-Posen inkl. Kussmund nachzustellen. Original wurde "Open fire" aber lediglich als Tape (mit Cover) und als Demo-LP (weißes Neutralcover) veröffentlicht, die allem Anschein nach wohl wirklich nur für diverse Radiostationen angefertigt worden ist, um die Jugend vom Radio aus mit glammigem Metal vollzudrönen. Für den musikalisch eher geringfügigen Wert, hat das Ding einen beachtlichen Preis bei Festpreisdealern, so dass man bei Ebay schon mal richtig suchen sollte, denn ob man 9,99 $ oder 150 $ für eine klassische Glam/Melodic Metal Scheibe hinblättert, ist für mich zumindest ein ziemlich großer Unterschied. Nummern wie "In the city", "Memory", "New attitude" oder "Keep me in your heart" lass ich sogar als guten melodischen Heavy Metal durchgehen, danach flacht das Niveau allerdings etwas ab und man neigt dazu es den großen Abräumern Schunkel-Metal-mäßig nachzutun, was zumindest in meinem Magen etwas "Unbehagen" aufsteigen lässt. Allerdings kann ich auf der anderen Seite auch eine richtig kräftige Produktion aufführen, was einige der Poser Tracks dann doch heavier erscheinen lässt, als sie in Wahrheit eigentlich sind. Auch Barracuda hatten ihre Instrumente voll im Griff, was im ein oder anderen Solo gipfelt, das man ihnen gar nicht zugetraut hätte. Also wenn ihr das Ding billig findet, dann nehmt es ruhig mit, es taucht nämlich nicht alle Tage auf...ganz im Gegensatz zu der koreanischen Re-Release Variante "Memory" die diesmal, wenn auch erst 1991, auf dem Label Hee Jee Records mit veränderter Tracklist und Beiblatt gefertigt wurde.

Another rare vinyl, and another one from the seemingly endless Glam Metal scene. Not that heavy though, but heavy production for sure, which qualifies Barracuda for being labelled Melodic Metal from my side alone for the good tracks "In the city", "Keep me in your heart", "Memory" and "New attitude", that are somewhere, apart from the other totally rockin' Glam suckers in the vein of the well known bands from that genre, enjoyable and offer the one or another quite above standard guitar solo that makes you wonder what else they could have been able to compose if their hearts weren't painted pink from inside. So once again talented musicians wasting their time in a band that was pre-programmed to miss any success.
"Open fire" is also available on CD (Bootleg?) now, but has been originally published in 1989 only as tape with booklet and Demo-LP with neutral white sleeve on their own label Rock Hard Records. Just keep your eyes open since the prices do differ extremely! Or in case you don't wanna wait you may go and get the korean vinyl re-release that was pressed on Hee Jee Records in 1991 with PS and insert and with slightly different track order. (Futuresynner)
