Overdrive: Three corners to nowhere

Zuerst nur als LP aufgenommen besticht "Three corners to nowhere" durch seine im Vergleich zum Vorgänger "On wizards ridge" größere Dichte an einprägsamen Songs und das bessere Coverartwork.

"Marshall law" oder "All souls night" (tolle Halbballade) entwickeln sich schon nach kurzer Zeit zu Ohrwürmern. "The blaze of Bronze" und damit der schwächste Song des Albums steht am Anfang. Warum machen Bands sowas, wenn sie danach noch richtige Hämmer im Gepäck haben? Schon das folgende "All dogs have their day" zeigt die Band in bestem NWoBHM-Gewand.

Da es ja nicht nur eine Band mit Namen OVERDRIVE gibt sei hier angemerkt, daß OVERDRIVE 1981 die rare Single "On the run" und fast 10 Jahre später das rare und ziemlich eigenwillige Album "Dishonest words" aufgenommen haben. "On wizards ridge" wurde dann als LP und CD veröffentlicht, wobei hier die LP-Version aufgrund der schöneren Aufmachung mehr besticht.

Bei "Three corners of nowhere" kann der NWoBHM-Fan nicht viel falsch machen. Sowohl LP als auch CD sind musikalisch wertvoll und schön gestaltet.

Fine Post-NWoBHM from one of the longest living NWoBHM-bands. Since 1977 the band is active and in that time we got albums like "Dishonest words", "On wizards ridge" or "Three corners to nowhere" which is their strongest release.

Songs like "All souls day", "Marshall law", "All dogs have their day" or "Lost song of a loneley man" to name only a few are melodic Hard Rock-pearls.

The only question remains why the weakest track of the album "The Blaze of Bronze" was put on the beginning. Usually bands place the strongest one in front, but anyway. The whole album contains so many great tracks that we will forget about that. The band made a big step between "On wizards rich" (LP/CD) to "Three corners to nowhere", so all fans of melodic NWoBHM-music in the style of PRAYING MANTIS (this is only a vague hint, the music of OVERDRIVE and PRAYING MANTIS in fact is quite different) should check out "Three corners to nowhere".
