Nightwing: 8472

Review

Viele Jahre war es relativ ruhig um NIGHTWING, aber im Jahre 2009 meldet sich eine der unterbewertetsten Hard Rock-Bands Englands endlich zurück! Gleich der Eröffnungssong von "8472" zeigt, daß die Band nichts verlernt hat. "This means war" ist auf der gleichen Stufe wie zum Beispiel "Black summer".

NIGHTWING leben natürlich auch von ihrem hervorragenden Sänger Gordon Rowley, der seine überragenden Fähikeiten unter anderem auch schon bei STRIFE zeigt. Perfekt passt er sich den Songs an und die THE KLUBS-Coverversion "Indian dream" tönte niemals besser.

Wenn sich NIGHTWING vom Blues entfernen und echten Rock spielen, haben sie ihre stärksten Momente, obwohl sie die gesamte Bandbreite zwischen Blues und Hard Rock beherrschen.

Natürlich hat man mit einem hervorragenden Sänger immer schon einen Pluspunkt, aber die Kompositionen der Band sind im Laufe der Jahre nicht schlechter geworden. Insgesamt kann man sogar sagen, daß "8472" den Höhepunkt des Schaffens von NIGHTWING bietet. Anspieltips: "This means war", "Keep it alive", "Tell me" und "Back together again".

After many years of silence NIGHTWING are back with a brand new album. The starting song "This means war" is one of the strongest the band ever made which means that it's in the same league as "Black summer".

Vocalist Gordon Rowley is doubtetly the 100%-solution for this still great (Hard)Rock-Band. NIGHTWING have their strongest moments always by playing less blues but more Hard Rock although they are masters in both genres.

So in my opinion the two weakest songs on the album are the blues/Rock'n'Roll-songs "Midnight Woman" and "Statesboro blues". In comparision to the rest of the album which means the other tracks these can't keep the same high quality level. But as there are 11 better or even great songs this is not a tragedy.

"Back together again" is another exemple for perfectly played Hard Rock with a really good hookline and fantastic vocals. The late 70s/early 80s influences in the music are to the bands best and will make every old fan very happy. If you liked the other NIGHTWING-albums, "8472" will pleasure you.

Maybe "8472" contains more hit potential than each album before, but I am afraid, that again the audience will not be aware of NIGHTWING's quality. You won't find much better classic rock music at these times, so don`t hesitate to buy this great album!
