A Tortured Soul: Lucifers Fate

Recht ungewöhnlich, daß eine Metal-Band ihr Album mit einer Ballade beginnt, aber dafür mal eine gelungene Abwechslung. Und "Ritual" tönt zudem auch noch sehr gut und klischeefrei.

Wer sich jetzt schon auf sanfte Klänge eingestellt hat, wird sogleich aus den Träumen gerissen. Der Titelsong folgt auf dem Fuße und hämmert gewaltig leidet aber etwas darunter, daß eine prägnante Songstruktur nicht wirklich auffindbar ist.

Mit Enflüssen von COUNT RAVEN über MERCYFUL FATE bis SOLITUDE AETURNUS (ohne jedoch stark in doomige Gefilde abzutauchen) limitieren sich A TORTURED SOUL auf ihrem dritten Album naturgemäß etwas selbst und nicht wirklich zwingend sind auch z.B. "Eye of Ra" oder "Ashes to ashes" wenngleich die Stimme von Frontmann Rick Black perfekt zur Musik passt und er zudem kräftig intonieren kann.

Dass A TORTURED SOUL starke Songs schreiben können beweisen sie mit den KING DIAMOND/MERCIFUL FATE-beeinflußten Songs "A dark chapel", "Winterkill" und auch "Rust", welche zwar relativ progressive Parts beinhalten aber nie langweilig werden.

Mit einem wirklich gelungenen Coverartwork wird ein Album abgerundet, das sehr zielgruppengebunden ist, diese Zielgruppe aber auch sicher nicht enttäuschen wird.

Not really usual that a Metal band starts its album with a ballad, but as we are happy for every change in the routine this is a really good beginning especially because the song is free of clichee and really fine.

If anyone was waiting now for similar sounds in the next songs will be wrong. The title song is real Heavy Metal but lacks a bit a remarkable song line. A problem some other songs on this album show too. With influences from COUNT RAVEN, MERCIFUL FATE or SOLITUDE AETURNUS (without being really doomy) the band limits itself on their third album according to the limited range of this kind of music, but the vocalist Rick Black fits perfect to the Music and has the strong voice to give the songs the plus of power they need.

A TORTURED SOUL prove their ability to write strong songs with the KING DIAMOND/MERCIFUL FATE-influenced songs "A dark chapel", "Winterkill" and "Rust" which contain some progressive parts but avoids to become boring.

With a really impressing coverartwork A TORTURED SOUL pleasures the watchers eye and present whole in whole an album which is very fixed on a special clientelle, but these ones it will not disappoint.
