Black Rose: Live by it

Wenn Odyssey's LP als "outstanding Metal gem" bewertet wird, dann frage ich mich was mit Black Rose geschehen soll. Odyssey in Südafrika zu finden dauerte gerade mal 3 Monate, die Black Rose Hürde zu nehmen fast ein ganzes Jahr, bis auf einem Flohmarkt endlich ein Exemplar gesichtet und sofort in metallischen Gewahrsam genommen wurde. "Live by it" ist die erste Metal LP aus dem kleinen Land und NWOBHM Freunde dürfen sich schon mal die Finger lecken, es gibt nämlich britisches Musikgut zu vermelden. Um genauer ins Detail zu gehen, es wird musiziert als wäre 1981 die Zeit stehen geblieben. Eine Mischung aus Boogie-lastigem Hard Rock und Heavy Metal, so wie es 70 % der Briten auch fabrizierten und gnadenlos untergingen. Ob jemand 1984 diese Art von Musik noch hören wollte, wage ich zu bezweifeln. Trotzdem kann man mit "Blackout" auch auf deutlich speedigeres Songmaterial vorweisen, gleichsam der härteste Track auf dem Album. Mein persönlicher Favorit ist nach wie vor der Titeltrack "Live by it" der wieder eine Art Hassliebe auslöst. Er beginnt wahnsinnig belanglos schunkelnd und knallt dem Hörer dann auf dem Höhepunkt der Einfallslosigkeit einen unglaublich epischen Refrain vor den Latz, dass man gar nicht genug davon bekommen kann. Gänsehautstimmung pur! "Leather lady" lief nach genau dem selben Schema ab und "Sweet danger" sollte man ebenfalls lobend erwähnen. Ansonsten hielt sich die Truppe mit Geistesblitzen ziemlich bedeckt, wodurch "Live by it" lediglich zu einem durchschnittlichen Album herabgewürdigt wird, aus einem Land in dem Heavy Metal bis Anfang der 90's geächtet war. Aber um nochmals darauf hinzuweisen, jeder NWOBH-Metaller kann diese LP bedenkenlos auf seine Suchliste setzen.
Eine Kuriosität am Rande, im Jahr des Erscheinens fertigte das finnische Poko Records Label eine Lizenzpressung an, die sich vom Original darin unterscheidet, dass auf dem Innersleeve keine Texte/Bildchen abgedruckt wurden. Aber auch diese Pressung taucht nur relativ selten auf.

If you think Odyssey's LP is impossible to find then you need to learn that it took my friend almost a whole year longer to find Black Rose's "Live by it" LP while Odyssey's album he found rather problemlessly, and about the prices..yeah, you wouldn't believe me at all.
But back to the album, besides the original Music Team pressing "Live by it" was also licensed to the finish label Poko Records but this version differs from the Music Team pressing because the finish pressing doesn't have the printed innersleeve with band pics and lyrix. May already the original LP be almost impossible to obtain, to find the finish version isn't the easiest task either.
Musically everyone into NWOBHM sounds should read on since Black Rose do sound extremely british just like as if "Live by it" was recorded in 1981. Typically Boogie-driven Hard Rock mixing with Heavy Metal tunes while "Blackout" is kinda speedy Metal and the heaviest track on the whole album. More nice songs are "Leather lady" and "Sweet danger" that live especially by the great refrains just like the title track which is my personal fave on the album. It starts almost boring but the epic refrain is setting my blood on fire.
NWOBHM collectors may watch out for this LP from an totally obscure country where you as a Metalhead was the same like a renegade until the early 90's. Historical record for South Africa's 80's Metal scene.
