Crystal Viper: Metal nation

Review

Das zweite richtige Album von CRYSTAL VIPER unterscheidet sich für mich vom sehr guten Debut nur insoweit als ein anderer Zeichner für das Coverartwork verantwortlich ist. Chris Moyen hat hier eine phantastische Arbeit abgeliefert. Aber zur Musik:

Natürlich thront über allem die gewaltige Stimme von Marta Gabriel und natürlich sind die Songs genau auf sie zugeschnitten. Ebenso unausweichlich ist der Vergleich mit ZED YAGO zu Zeiten des ersten Albums der Band und ebenso oft gehört wie geschrieben wurde, daß Marta momentan die beste Sängerin im Heavy Metal ist.

Alles schön und gut, aber was wirklich erstaunt ist, daß die Songs die Qualität des Debut-Albums halten können und teilweise sogar übertreffen. Power Metal mit starken Melodien, das heißt Eingängigkeit ohne beliebig zu wirken.

Überragende Coverversionen wie von VIRGIN STEELE (auf "The last axeman" oder MIRAGE (auf "Metal Armada of Karthagos Dragons) sind zwar eine interessante Angelegenheit, aber eigentlich hat die Band das gar nicht nötig, so überrascht es, daß schon wieder eine Coverversion (diesmal von AGENT STEEL) verbraten wurde.

Das wäre von meiner Seite der einzige Kritikpunkt (den mein Chef hier sicher nicht gerne liest), wenngleich der Song natürlich gut ist, aber ich hätte lieber noch eine weitere Eigenkomposition gehört. Ansonsten bleibt ein saustarkes Album und für mich das erste echte Highlight im noch jungen Metal-Jahr 2009!

The second "real" album from CRYSTAL VIPER differs from the fine Debut only that way as a new drawer made the coverartwork. Chris Moyen did a real good job, but back to music:

Of course the giant voice of Marta is the specific trademark of CRYSTAL VIPER and all songs are focused on that. So still you can compare the music with the first album from ZED YAGO and clear as a diamond it shows the fact that Marta Gabriel is the best female Metal-vocalist today.

Thats all fine, but really astonishing is, that the Songs can beat the quality of the first album. Power Metal with strong melodies shows catchy choruses and is never boring.

Overwhelming coverversions like the ones from VIRGIN STEELE (on "The last axeman") or MIRAGE (on "Metal armada of Karthagos Dragons") are interesting and the band did them perfectly but normally its not necessary for CV to record coverversions. The self-made material is strong enough and so the AGENT STEEL-Coverversion is nice but I would have prefered one more song written by CRYSTAL VIPER themselves.

This is the only point I have to criticize. All in all there is nothing left to say than "Metal nation" is the first highlight in the early 2009! My personal favourit song is "The crimson tears".
