Crystal Viper: Legends

Review

In gewohnter Manier agieren C. VIPER auf ihrem 3. reinen Studioalbum. Martha Gabriels Stimme thront über allem und die Songs geschrieben von Bart Gabriel passen natürlich perfekt zu ihrer Stimme.

Das sehr starke "Blood of the heroes" hat man unverständlicherweise nicht an den Anfang gestellt. Das folgende "Greed is blind" erinnert sehr stark an HELLOWEEN. Zum Glück gehts mit "Sydonia Bork", einer Ballade wieder in eigenständigere Bereiche, auch wenn der Song an die stärksten Momente von Doro Pesch erinnert.

"Goddess of death" ist sehr gelungen. Starker Midtempo-Song mit hervorragendem Refrain. Hier ist Martha "stronger than ever". vor allem mit der wirklich fetten Produktion im Hintergrund. Auch "Night of the sin" ist mit viel Power und einem guten Refrain ausgestattet. "Secret of the black water" fällt dagegen leicht ab, ist aber auch auf jeden Fall ein gute Nummer.

"A man of Stone" ist meines Erachtens die schwächste Nummer auf dem Album, auch wenn er schöne Maiden-mässige Gitarrenläufe hat.
In Richtung IRON MAIDEN geht auch "Black Leviathan". Eine Zeitreise zurueck Richtung 1985, auch wenn der Refrain nicht ganz so stark ist.

So bleibt festzuhalten, dass CRYSTAL VIPER das Niveau des Vorgängers "Metal nation" halten, jedoch nicht ganz an ihr Debut-Meisterwerk heranreichen. Das sollte aber niemanden vom Erwerb dieses feinen True Metal-Werks abhalten.

CRYSTAL VIPER work on their third album like everybody expected it. Martha Gabriels voice fits again perfectly to the songs written by Bart Gabriel and so we are happy to have another album from one of the strongest female fronted bands in Heavy Metal genre.

The very powerful track "Bloods of the heroes" for unknown reason was not put at the beginning, so you have to wait for the first real highlight a few minutes. "Greed is blind" is a bit toonear to HELLOWEEN, but with the next song "Sydonia bork" CRYSTAL VIPER go back to their own style and this really fine Ballad remembers on the strongest moments of Doro Pesch but with a unique touch.

"Goddess of death" is really perfect! A strong midtempo-Song with a real outstanding Chorus. This is reminding on the fabulous first album but with an even better production! Could become one of the live-classics for the band. Martha here sounds stronger than ever.

"Night of the sin" was made with a lot of power and another really remarkable chorus. With "Secret of the black water" another good but not outstanding song follows. "A man of stone" is in my opinion the weakest track of the album. Quite "italian" which means very melodic lacking a bit own identity altough the IRON MAIDEN-like guitars are really nice.

The final "Black Leviathan goes back to IRON MAIDEN in 1985 times. Maybe the chorus is not as strong as in some tracks before, but again the great vocals of Marta let us forget about that.

So all in all "Legends" is a very fine album with a strong production and for sure on equal quality level as the predecessor "Metal nation". So there are enough reasons to complete the CRYSTAL VIPER collection with "Legends".
