Knightshade: Out for the count

Ich schätze Knightshade sind wohl Neuseelands bekannteste Metal/Hard Rock Band gewesen. Knightshade schwankten auf jedem Album zwischen Hard Rock und richtigem Metal. "Free love" sollte schon von der "3 Points of Metal" Split LP bekannt sein sowie inklusive dem Stampfer "Blood and money" von der "Attack from Down Unda" Compilation. Auf diesen beiden Tracks klangen sie wie eine echte Metalband, um ins Detail zu gehen sehr britisch, immer mit melodischer Grundorientierung und Wayne Elliotts schönen harmonischen Vocals. "Out for the count" klingt fast genau wie das 2 Jahre später veröffentlichte "You don't need me", ein netter melodischer Ohrwurm (also beide Tracks) und "Heart of stone" fiel zu rockig aus, offenbart aber wieder einen Ohrwurmrefrain wie bereits gewohnt. Beide Gitarreros geizen bei den Soli auch nicht mit ihrem Können und der Sound stimmt. "Out for the count" ist für mich ohne Frage ihr bestes und härtestes (Mini) Album. Gleichsam auch das am schwersten zu findende Knightshade Release überhaupt...sollte man als Melodic Metaller haben!

After they already appeared on the "3 Points of Metal" Live Split LP in 1984 with "Free love" and "Free love"/"Blood money" (studio versions) on "Attack from Down Unda" "Out for the count" was their first studio (mini) album. Knightshade have always been a mix between Hard Rock and pure Heavy Metal on each album with an melodic background while the heaviest tracks like "Free love" and "Blood and money" always reminded a bit to british bands. The title track shows many parallels to the 2 years later released "You don't need me", a melodic Metal hammer with softer note, but very enjoyable while "Heart of stone" became a Rocker with the typical remarkable refrain that almost all of their songs got.
"Out for the count" is by far the hardest to find Knightshade album and for me their best and heaviest work as well. Melodic Metal fans should risk an ear and start trying Knightshade with this vinyl!
