Masquerade: Cybernetic Empire

Seit 1986 sind MASQUERADE aktiv und genau das hört man zum Glück auch überdeutlich aus den Songs heraus. Da ich die CD in den Player gegeben habe ohne vorher irgendwas über die Band zu wissen und nur sah, daß es vom Label Heartofsteel kommt, bin ich davon ausgegangen, daß es sich um einen Rerelease handelt.

Nun, so ähnlich ist es auch. Die Songs sind älteren Datums, manche auch schon länger in den Archiven, aber exzellent aufgenommen und es ist unbegreiflich, daß diese Perle des holländischen Metal so lange verborgen geblieben ist. Starke Gesangsleistung, sehr feine 80er Metal-Songs die wie eine Mischung aus Euro- und US-Metal rüberkommen und wirklich überzeugen können.

Das Coverartwork ist evtl. etwas unglücklich, ebenso der Titel der CD, da man auf moderneren Sound schließen könnte. Ist es aber nicht. Hier werden 80er Fans glücklich!

Since 1986 MASQUERADE work on their music but "Cybernetic Empire" so far is their first album. When I put the CD in the player without knowing anything about MASQUERADE except that its coming via Heartofsteel Records I thought it would be some rerelease from another italian band. It is not. MASQUERADE are a hidden treasure from the Netherlands and its a mistery to me how this band could have been into obscurity so long.

True excellent 80s sound combinding US- with Euro-Metal and a vocalist fitting exactly to that stuff shows us an album which could have been done 20 years ago and still sounds fresh. The coverartwork and the titles maybe give a wrong impression because this band has nothing to do with modern sounds. So all 80s fans hurry up and listen to MASQUERADE. I am sure a lot will be pleasured by the music of this band.
