Wer hätte damit gerechnet? Die italienische Metal-Legende CRYING STEEL ist zurück. Wie schon in den 80ern hat die Band einen kleinen US-Metal-Touch, was nicht zuletzt am manchmal recht hoch tönenden Sänger liegt. Musikalisch hat sich kaum was verändert. "On the prowl" war ja schon ein sehr gutes Album und "The steel is back" hat mit Songs wie "Raptor", "Hold her" oder "Let it down" einige Granaten auf Lager, die auch NWoBHM-Einflüsse nicht vermissen lassen. Ich muß ehrlich gestehen, daß ich mir nicht allzuviel von dieser Reunion erwartet hatte und umso überraschter war ich, dass diese dann tatsächlich gelungen ist. Das völlig belanglose Bandcover trägt leider nicht dazu bei die gebührende Aufmerksamkeit zu erwecken. Komplett frei vom üblichen italienischen Epic-Tralala (Ihr wißt, welche Bands ich meine), besinnt man sich auf die echten Tugenden: Gute Melodien und schnörkellose Power! In den Printmagazinen wird diese Band wohl keine guten Karten haben. Hoffnungslos altmodisch oder ähnliche Attribute wird sie bekommen und genau das ist es, was ich bei der Band hören mag. Garantiert trendfrei!

Surprisingly a very good reunion. After the fine "On the prowl" there was silence for many years, but the new album "The steel is back" convinces me with NWoBHM-influenced material ("Let it down") and its hearable that the band has fun while playing. Sadly the coverartwork with the band on it is totally boring so hopefully it will attract attention anyway. Completely free of any overproduced nonsense just check "Night owl" or "Raptor" and you will know what I mean. This is pure power and the good songs are timeless. Thumbs up for one of the most useful reunions of the last years! (Stefan Riermaier)
