Liegand: Darkland

Looks quite gloomy I know and everyone is screaming together in one choir T-H-R-A-S-H! I'm feel so devastated to dissappoint you, but Liegand isn't a Thrash band. It's even hard to label the style they play because both tracks are basically accoustic midtempo creations (ballads!) and the listener is always waiting for Liegand to explode in a Power Metal direction but in the end there's just the end of the song revealing. At least "No solution" goes in a much more Metal direction but that track is a ballad as well but fortunately offering some more distorted guitars than the title track, even though it sounds quite amateurish when they're trying to play heavier. The whole reminds me to a local band from my area who released a demo nearly at the same time, AGE OF MADNESS. Same vocal style, same music style...but AGE OF MADNESS was a bit more enjoyable imo. One thing to add, vocalist Hubs reminds me to James Hetfield including his famous "Oh-yeahie-yeah" yelling...
I found my record in the mid 90's for about 5 DM in the second hand corner of a Black/Death Metal mailorder catalogue and well...it's not much worth than this if you ask me. Just an obscure pressing that appears very seldom. Don't pay too much!

Eine sehr interessante 12" präsentieren uns Liegand mit "Darkland": ein akustisches Intro, ein fast schon hypnotischer Akkord, der sich bis zum Songende durchzieht, doomige, atmosphärische Klänge im Hintergrund und eine Stimme, die der von James Hetfield nicht unähnlich ist. Heraus kommt ein sehr eingängiger, schwermütiger Song, der seine Reize erst nach zwei, drei Hördurchläufen versprüht, dann aber umso besser gefällt ("Darkland"). Damit aber nicht genug, denn sehr ähnlich ist "No Solution" auf Seite zwei aufgebaut. Wieder ein kurzes Vorspiel, ein Akkord, der immer wiederholt wird, ein kurzer Ausbruch beim Refrain, und wieder getragen weiter. Liegand hatten eine Menge Potential, nur leider blieb es bei dieser 12", die der aufgeschlossene Sammler unbedingt notieren sollte.
