No Bros: Hungry for the goods times

Österreichs bekannteste Heavy Metal Band kennt man außerhalb der Heimat hauptsächlich im Süddeutschen Raum, auch wenn viele Alben ihren Weg selbst nach Südamerika oder Japan fanden. In 2006 veröffentlichten Klaus Schubert und seine Mannen nach langer NO BROS-Album-Pause das Album "Hungry for the good times". Der Eröffnungssong "Manifest your destiny" erinnert an BLACK SABBATH zu "Eternal Idol"-Zeiten mit DEEP PURPLE, RAINBOW, DIO und URIAH HEEP-Einflüssen und zeigt warum NO BROS in Österreich die Nummer 1 sind und bleiben. Der Song allein rechtfertigt den Kauf des Albums. Natürlich ist das nicht alles. Während DEEP PUPLE heute oftmals zu "bluesig" erscheinen und die Hard Rock-Wurzeln beiseite schieben, bleiben NO BROS glücklicherweise "Heavy Metal", auch wenn mit "Way more of this" ein schwächerer Rock'n'rolliger Song dabei ist und gerade der Titelsong, zwar wieder besser, aber auch in diese Richtung geht, was der Band nicht wirklich gut zu Gesichte steht. Möglicherweise ist das ein Grund warum die Band nie den internationalen Durchbruch geschafft hat denn im Bereich der härteren Songs und der Balladen ist man unendlich stark und kann es mit jeder Band des Planeten aufnehmen. Beweis: "Carry on". Hammerballade! Mit "Caledonia" geht es wieder Richtung DEEP PURPLE ...nur besser. Bei "Greed for flesh" sind wir wieder im düsteren BLACK SABBATH-Bereich aber ohne doomig zu wirken. Das ruhige "Blind", bei dem die Band gleich noch eine starke (Halb)-Ballade am Start hat, ist quasi noch einmal ein weiterer Beweis (als wenn es den noch bräuchte), was die Band kann. Unnötig zu erwähnen, daß NO BROS mit Lem Enzinger einen fantastischen Sänger haben, der Sound druckvoll und transparent ist und wir uns nur fragen, warum das Coverwartwork genauso gräßlich sein muß, wie bei allen NO BROS Alben zuvor. Dies ist möglicherweise noch ein Grund, warum es die Band nie "richtig" geschafft hat. Ein anderer will mir bei der Güte des Materials nicht einfallen.

Austrias most known Heavy Metal band sadly outside their country is more or less unknown although the band is active since 30 years. The Song "Heavy Metal party" was the only one which got a wider audience at that time although some LPs went to Japan and even South America. The 2006 album "Hungry for heaven" starts with the BLACK SABBATH like "Manifest your destiny". Some influences of RAINBOW, DEEP PURPLE, DIO and URIAH HEEP can be heard but NO BROS are on the same quality level today although most of the world will not notice that. Of course there is a lot more great material on the album. If you put beside the titlesong and the weak Rock'n'roll-like "Way more of this" there is left stuff like the glorious ballad "Carry on", the powerful "Three horned dragons" and "Caledonia", "Greed for flesh" and so on and so on. As usual "Hungry for the good times" shows and amateurish artwork like any NO BROS - album before. Maybe this is another point which stopped the way to fame. The musical material in any case is so strong that the band would have deserved it to be on top.
