Ya Ya Choral: Grunts

Lasst Euch nicht von dem düster wirkenden Coverartwork, das sich auch auf der Rückseite in gleicher Art fortsetzt, falsche Tatsachen vortäuschen. Es gibt auf "Grunts" keinen Düster Metal zu hören, sondern lediglich wie von Ya Ya Choral gewohnt fröhlichen Heavy Rock, der genüsslich vor sich hinplätschert, zum einen Ohr rein, zum anderen wieder raus. Da hilft es auch nicht besonders wenn Frontfrau Fiona Graham ihre Möpse tanzen lässt. Über ihre stimmlichen Schwächeleien (ála Nicole Lee auf frühen Znöwhite Platten) täuscht auch ihr Vorbau nicht ewig hinweg. Mit "Touch too much" gibt es auch ein AC/DC Cover zu vermelden, das sich nahtlos in den Stil der Band integriert, ohne groß aus dem Rahmen zu fallen. Wer es nicht übermäßig metallisch braucht, sondern mehr heavy rockig, sollte "Grunts" ruhig mal ausprobieren. Zumindest ist diese MLP um Längen besser als ihr Album, das ein Jahr später erschien. Aber im Großen und Ganzen ist auch "Grunts" reichlich überflüssig.

Don't let the gloomy cover artwork fool you. "Grunts" doesn't hide Thrash, Doom or even Death Metal but happy Heavy Rock like the most of you do already know from the album released in 1989. Luckily the material on "Grunts" is a lot better than "One small step for mankind" but still it's more or less a bad joke compared to the heaviness of other aussie bands. With "Touch too much" there's even an AC/DC cover featured that fits perfectly to the bands rockin' style on this MLP. Still to mention Fiona Grahams weak voice comparable to Nicole Lee's appearance on Znöwhite's first albums. You'd only try this band if you're into not so heavy material at all. It's heavy but not Metal, just Rock. Remember that! Still a rare piece indeed but nothing to die for.
