Disciple: I wanna see 'em there

Auch im sonnigen Australien gab es vereinzelte White Metal Bands und eine davon verkörperten die Melodic Metaller Disciple aus Salisbury.
Nachdem sie kurz nach Bandgründung im Dezember '87 bereits im Mai des darauffolgenden Jahres ihr erstes Demo-Album "Sacred Knights" in Kassettenform vorlegten, folgte etwas später diese 7", die die Band, wie oft schon gewohnt, von 2 Seiten zeigte. Während "I wanna see 'em there" eine melodisch verspielte Note anschlägt, die teilweise an ihre Landsmänner ALMOST HUMAN erinnert, könnte man denken dass es sich bei "Foot of the cross" um eine US Metal Truppe handelt die irgendwie nach Crimson Glory für Fußgänger bzw. halb so progressiv klang. Eine schleppend epische Hymne, die wirklich alles hat was einen guten Song ausmacht und der durch den cremig-zarten, eingängig melodiösen Gesang von Niels Johnson die diamantene Krone aufgesetzt wurde.
Entgegen jeder bekannten Regel versuchten Disciple, wie fast alle ihrer australischen Kollegen, nicht die ausgeleierte NWOBHM Schiene zu fahren und stachen demzufolge aus der Masse der Aussie Metal Bands hervor, was ihnen am Ende trotzdem nix nützte. Für Melodic Metal Freunde ist das Teil unumgänglich!

Compared to almost all other aussie Metal bands Disciple do offer a surprisingly non british sounding style on this 2 tracker. While "I wanna see 'em there" is somewhere acting in the melodic vein of their countrymates ALMOST HUMAN with still guitar oriented progressive tunes, the B side "Foot of the cross" reminds alot to softer CRIMSON GLORY, half as progressive but with an epically creeping touch, a true anthem whose quality was especially raised by the clean and strong vocals of Niels Johnson and the more than listenable lead guitar parts of his brother Glenn. This EP will surely cause several headaches to locate a copy but friends of melodic Heavy Metal with slightly progressive edge do really need it!
