For us who love to explore the earliest history of 80's Heavy Metal from various parts of the world, CARBURE's debut EP from 1983 is pretty much essential collection-fodder. It would take an additional 4 years before something as consistently Heavy as this once again appeared on the Colombian scene, then in the form of the much adored KRAKEN debut LP, but Carbure were truly the originators of Colombian Steel!
A welcomed "bonus" with this EP is that all 3 tracks are Hard & Heavy crunchers - no schmallads or Token Rockers ruining the vibe here. OK, so "Hombres En Serie" scares you a bit with the soft intro, but it quickly turns into the best song on the EP with its galopping pace and epic overtones - a definitive must for any future Exotic Metal mix-tape! And yeah, "El Falton" leans a bit towards the rockin' side of the fence, but more in a NWOBHM-manner than the notorious "classic rock"-dito. Still I'd say these guys doesn't quite line up w/ the expected NWOBHM-sound but bares more similarities to other SoAm HM trailblazers like Resistencia (esp. on the opener "Carne.."), V8 or even the early Spanish scene like Baron Rojo or Obus - minus the boring boogie-rock parts mind you!
Sadly the band didn't leave much of a legacy behind, as the only other release before their eventual break-up was a sappy aor/melo-hr 7" released in 1987. On the positive side, this EP is actually one of the more obtainable ones from this country, despite its age. At least 2 different pressings exist and I'm suspecting at least one of these editions to have been rather large.
