New Records has a rather anonymous ring to it and is thus an easy label to ignore, but when studying their fairly large output it becomes clear that they must have been one of the most important players of the French Metal scene. So most releases might have been license pressings (they co-operated with among others Music For Nations/Under One Flag, Combat, Earthshaker, Powerstation etc..) but there's a fair share of original signings as well, out of which many were pretty damn good. As with all semi-major labels a large part of the output spills over into aor, sleaze and other mainstream and off-topic territories, but for competeness sake I've chosen to cover their output until the end.

The name-change from New Records to New Electric Way in 1986 seems mostly like a cosmetic one, but adapting the final N.E.W Musidic-iteration indicates a more thorough co-op with their main distributor. Note that Musidisc themselves worked both as a label-group and distributor and you'll likely to find their logo on releases of familiar labels like Bernett, Sydney and Accord. With the exception of a handful of releases on the Enfer Records (see Enfer Magazine) imprint that used the same number system, this page will however only deal with the N.E.W-stuffs.

In 1987 they adopted the Musidisc 6-digit catalogue number system, making it damn near impossible to make a dead-certain, complete list of all their releases. I've been as thorough as is humanly possible though, so I doubt few titles are missing from the list*.

* = ...except a dozen-or-so disco-singles on New Records using a 5-digit catalogue system that didn't fit anywhere. Couldn't be bothered...
