It is bands like SILVER BULLETS who make digging through decades-old demo tapes such a re-warding task. The band formed in Glyfada (Athens) in 1988, playing good, old-fashioned Heavy Metal. According to an interview in Sword & Axe #1, the embryo to the band originated in a trio of musicians: Kyriakos Papadakos and Pantelis Koutroulis on guitars and drummer Vasilis Boultis (drums). Simultaneously, another duo of players - Alexis Balakakis (vocals - FORTRESS UNDER SIEGE, POWER CRUE, SPITFIRE, etc.) and George Economou (bass - POWER CRUE, POW-ERSTORM) - were looking for guitarists/drummers to hook up with in the hopes of recording ma-terial. They all got together at a rehearsal and thus, SILVER BULLETS was born.
During February/March 1991, the band entered Praxis Studio for the creation of a four track demo tape, entitled ”Death Is Certain”. Sadly, it would be their sole release under the S.B. moniker, but what a glorious demo it is! Speedy, gritty and highly memorable Heavy Metal, with songs that’ll be stuck in your head for days.
Plans very apparently staked out for both live shows and further recordings, but somewhere along the road the band split up, with members moving on to other activities. Perhaps most notable, George Ecenomou and Alexis Balakakis eventually teamed up in POWER CRUE and were both integral in creation of the Greek Heavy Metal classic ”The Sign of Rage” (1996).
The demo track ”Black Demon” was also included in the first volume of the Power Feast tape compilation series, assembled by the creators of Mass Dementia zine.
