Hailing from Volos (Thessaly), NACHTREICH (alternatively spelled NÄCHTREICH) was a Black Metal act mainly active during the late-1990s/early-2000s during which time the band released at least two demo tapes before leaving for the Grey Shores. Although no lineup is mentioned, one is inclined to guess that this was a one-man operation led by a certain Count Dregoth – being the only name mentioned in the credits.
As was quite common at the time, NACHTREICH eschewed the common attributes of traditional Hellenic Black Metal in favor of a decidedly Norse-sounding style. Early BURZUM appears to have been a major influence, both in terms of music and general concept. For example, the name of the second demo, “Deldùwath”, is an Elvish composite word (“Horror” and “Night Shadow”) alluding to the forested region of Dorthonion after its succumbence to the Dark Lord Morgoth. Musically, NACHTREICH drew heavily on BURZUM classics such as “Ea, Lord of the Depths” – never a bad source of inspiration, although they would’ve surely benefited from a flesh-and-blood drummer rather than digital percussion.
