Ezgaroth

Athens (Attica)
Black Metal, Industrial
Active:
1993-unknown (as ESGAROTH), unknown-present (as EZGAROTH)

Presumably formed in the early 2000s, EZGAROTH is the direct continuation of the Nordic-sounding 1990s Black Metal band ESGAROTH (see separate post here), who decided to change name after the release of their one and only demo “Crypts of Everlasting Winter” (1996).

Along with the arrival of fellow BETHOR member Jim “Ophiel/Daimon Erect” Apostolopoulos (guitars, bass, keyboards – BETHOR, SHRINE OF ORPHEUS) [note: Ophiel might’ve been present already before the name-change, but this haven’t been confirmed yet] and the decision to employ digital percussion, the change of moniker also appears to have coincided with a change of stylistic direction. This can be witnessed on EZGAROTH’s album premiere “D.C.L.X.V.I: The Order” (2004), which merge raw Black Metal and Industrial music with an occult/satanic outlook slightly similar to the Norwegian MYSTICUM.

The second (and currently final) release of EZGAROTH arrived in 2011 as a two-track (one per band) split 7” with countrymen PRIMEVAL MASS entitled “Amongst the Ruins of the Cosmos/Nightside”. Musically, EZGAROTH’s track “Nightside” once again shows the band adopting a different style of Black Metal, which put more emphasis on semi-droning, disharmonic guitar-lines. By this time, the band appears to have been reduced to a one-man mission, with Count Lethaemon remaining as the sole member.

As far as we know, no further releases have appeared since 2011, but neither any notions of the band calling it quits. In addition to their shared works with ESGAROTH/EZGAROTH and BETHOR, Count Lethaemon and Ophiel/Daimon Erect has also been active in bands like IASMA, MEDIEVAL DEMON and SHRINE OF ORPHEUS .
