Along with countrymen such as INVERACITY, VULNUS and ABNORMAL INHUMANE, Lamia’s EXTREME VIOLENCE belongs to the modern front-guard of Brutal Death Metal in Hellas. The band, whose history reaches back to 1999, currently includes Christos Pallas (vocals – SOUNDS OF FRAILTY), Thanasis Papaefthimiou (guitars – HOSTAGE) and Marios Papapavlou (drums – ANGSTRIDDEN, HOSTAGE, SOULLESS, etc.), while the bass has been handled in the past by Thanasis Vlaxos and Kostas Koulakiotis (ANGSTRIDDEN, CELESTIAL SCREAM, STENDOR).
Throughout their relatively long-spanning career, EXTREME VIOLENCE has issued forth a handful of gruesomely illustrated demo/promo releases, a full-length CD entitled “Ecstasy in Pain” (2005) and most recently a retrospective demo compilation under the name “Unearthing the Abomination” (2021). As far as style goes, the no-brainer band name kind of gives them away: Brutal Death Metal in the North American-school, with SUFFOCATION as the main source of inspiration. Despite the hilariously violent and often technical character of the music, most of EXTREME VIOLENCE’s ouevre possess a certain playfulness and old school “organicness” that singles them out in a subgenre littered with overly sterile and perversely “brootal”-sounding acts.
