EXHIBITION was an Athenian Progressive Thrash/Death Metal group, who released two demos of rather adventurous material around the turn of the millennium. The early lineup of the band included Vlassis Ziouvas (vocals, guitars – DRAMA NOIR, MENCEA), Giorgos Bokos (guitars – STONE COLD DEAD, NIGHTFALL, OBSECRATION), Bill Gouvatsos (bass) and Panos Kalaras. For their second demo, bassist Bill G. was replaced by Haris Pazaroulas (STONE COLD DEAD, DISSOLUTION, EMBRACE OF FEAR).
What primarily made EXHIBITION stand out amongst the crowd of Thrashers was their tendency towards experimentation with both sonic landscapes and song structures, which makes sense when considering that both guitarist Giorgos Bokos and original bassist Bill Gouvatsos went on to work with sound engineering later in their careers. This is perhaps mostly evident on the band’s second demo, “Mind Explosion” (2001), which tends to break out of the normal song-writing routes via detours into “psychedelic” sound manipulation, and off-kilter riffing – all balanced against more catchy and melodic passages reminiscent of the Gothenburgian scene.
