En Toúto Níka (Εν Τούτω Νίκα)

Counting among the pioneers of Greek Epic Metal sung in Greek language, Εν Τούτω Νίκα (an expression comparable to the Medieval Latin “In hoc signo vinces” / “In this sign you will conquer”) is a one-man endeavor created in 1987 by the then Giannitsa-based Christos Lambroudis (vocals, all instruments). An experienced musician since young age (classical guitar, in particular), Christos had participated as a guitarist in several underground acts in the past, including DARK SIDE (an early incarnation of the Salonican Thrash Metal band ACETIC VOICE) as well as recording a full-length album and participating in several compilation volumes with Punk/Alternative act Μεταμεσονύκτια Προβολή. However, wanting to achieve total creative freedom to pursue his inner vision, Christos founded Εν Τούτω Νίκα, operating in a similar fashion to Quorthon with BATHORY (most surely a source of inspiration as well).

The first creative effort of the band was created in 1989 with a self-titled demo that included the self-titled epic monster “Εν Τούτω Νίκα” accompanied with solemn intro- and outro-tracks. For reference, one would have to reach for the afore-mentioned BATHORY, along with MANOWAR and, closer to home, the contemporary works of EXORISTOI (mostly based on the employment of the Greek language). Like many one-man acts though, the resulting music possess a unique character, overwhelming the listener with a momentous forward propulsion and a very convincing vocal performance to go along with the more-epic-than-thou main riff. A second, expanded version of the demo was issued in 1992, featuring the aforementioned compositions along with three additional tracks that added a certain soundtrack-like feel to the music. For this recording, Christos received valuable help from his childhood friend Elias Zois during his stay at OX Studios (Giannitsa). Both works were received favorably by the Greek underground, with over a thousand copies distributed.

Christos Lambroudis later went on to channel his interested in history by achieving a bachelor degree in archeology along with a masters of arts in history. He is currently active as an author of fantasy novels. Also, it is worth mentioning that it was Christos who wrote the lyrics for SARISSA’s 2004 album “Masters of Sin”.
