The Athenian Power/Thrash act DREAMLORD was formed in 1995 as a quartet consisting of Babis Paleogeorgos (vocals, guitars), Yiannis Glykiotis (guitars), Yiannis Kouris (bass) and Kostas Kanavidis (drums – CELESTIAL SCREAM, SLAVEBREED). After about a year of playing together, the band was ready to unleash their debut demo tape “Lords of Dream” (1996). The tape was initially distributed for free in underground circles, something which surely helped the band to spread the word. Perhaps as a result of this generous (and clever) move, DREAMLORD was allegedly able to draw a pretty large crowd at their very first concert, conducted at an outdoors festival arranged in co-operation with other local bands.
The first big drawback occurred when Kostas Kanavidis decided to leave, which naturally forced the band to look for a replacement. Luckily, they found Vasilis Hadgis, who’d apparently seen the band in action when he was playing with another local act. With the lineup once again completed, DREAMLORD went on to perform more live shows and also began working on new material, which materialized first in a promo tape containing the title-track for their upcoming second demo as well as two cover tunes.
In spring 1999, DREAMLORD recorded “Altars of Depression”, but the demo (this time on CD/CDr) didn’t get a proper release until 2000. Drawing on the classic US Power/Thrash formula – combining melody with a raging rhythmic attack – the band once again received positive response. However, with obligatory military service around the corner, DREAMLORD entered a longer period of inactivity. Here things get a little cloudy, but it seems like there was little outward activity going on between the years 2001-2003, followed by another break between 2007 and 2010, although they did put out some form of compilation in 2007.
DREAMLORD was once again resurrected around 2010, with Yiannis Kouris shifted from bass to drums when a new member named Christos Peveretos (bass, backing vocals) joined the ranks. New songs were once again being composed, along with concert attendances. Then Yiannis K. decided to depart in 2014 and was subsequently replaced by Nikos Kousounis (drums). After another five years, DREAMLORD finally released their first full-length album “Disciples of War” (2019). Tighter than ever, the band now pushed into thrashier territories, while still retaining much of the melodic contours of their previous works.
As far as we know, the band remains active to this day.
