DIABOLOS RISING was a joint project created by George “Magus Wampyr Daoloth” Zacharopoulos (bass, keyboards, drum programming, samples, vocals – NECROMANTIA, ROTTING CHRIST, THOU ART LORD, etc.) and IMPALED NAZARENE frontman Mika Luttinen (vocals) during the latter’s lengthy stay(s) in Greece. In terms of style, DIABOLOS RISING must be regarded as a pioneering act in the intersection between Black Metal and Electronic music. The sound can be described as an experimental merger of Electro-Industrial soundscapes, Black Metal aesthetics and some form of sado-fascist-satanic outlook. According to the creators themselves, the project began as a spontaneous affair, surely working as a creative outlet for stuff that didn’t fit in any of the members’ regular bands.
Two full-length albums were released under the DIABOLOS RISING moniker, “666” (1994) and “Blood, Vampirism and Sadism” (1995), along with a two-track 7” entitled “S.N.T.F.” (1995) – all issued by Osmose Productions and its subsidiary label KRON-H. They also released an (ahem) ambitious VHS version of “Blood, Vampirism and Sadism” through Osmose, which integrated video footage (done by a proper director) with the album tracks. As a side-note, we cannot fail to mention the cameo appearance of Cronos of VENOM in the film (he also provided guest vocals on the same album).
Following the release of “Blood, Vampirism and Sadism” video spectacle, George and Mika decided to reform the project as RAISM and put out two more releases that brought an even harsher approach to music making.
