Another obscure and filthy nugget from the ancient Hellenic Death/Black underground, Athens-based DECAY was formed in 1991 and released one single-track promo tape (without artwork) before vanishing into the mists of time. Except for lead guitarist Chris Gialou and bassist Giannis Patronidis, we only have the first names of the members participating so it’s kind of hard to tell if they were involved in other bands as well. Anyhow, the remaining members were Dimitris (vocals), Nikos (guitars) and on session drums a guy called Argy.
Despite its short playing-time, “Ceremonial Torture” (1991) is a righteous slab of dark and doomy Death Metal, bordering on Black Metal in terms of overall atmospherics and keyboard enhancements. Back in the day, the band appeared in at least handful of underground zines (including the domestic “Hate Monger” zine), but that’s about it. Why they weren’t picked up by, say… Molon Lave for their legendary 7-inch series is a bummer, because this band had obvious potential.
