After several (supposedly failed) attempts at forming a Metal band, the guitarist/drummer duo Manolis (guitars) and Christos Asonitis (drums) finally succeeded with creating the Thrash/Speed Metal act BRAIN DAMAGE in January 1991. Shortly after, the first full lineup was completed with the arrival of Dimitris Sivenas (vocals) and Sotiris Georgiou (bass).
After about six months, BRAIN DAMAGE decided to release their debut proposal – a rehearsal tape recorded live at Peripou Studios (the same studio used by BLIND SIDE on their first demo) in July 1991: two tracks of youthful Thrash/Speed Metal which received fair response from fanzines at the time of release, although some reviewers were not too happy with the vocals.
By November 1991, Sotiris left the band and was replaced by Vassilis (bass). According to the information found in fanzines around this time, BRAIN DAMAGE was apparently working on new material – among them a ballad and a cover of the CURE’s “The Forest” with clean vocals – with a second demo scheduled for summer 1992. Unfortunately, this demo never materialized and the band split up later the same year.
Christos the percussionist later went on to play and record with a few Greek mainstream Rock artists, such as SUDDENLY and Petros Theotokatos, and remains active as a professional Jazz drummer.
