BLOODGORE was a Death Metal act from the city of Kavala, formed in late 1995 and active at least until the turn of the millennium. The band consisted of core duo Lefteris Nasos (guitars, bass, vocals) and Nikous Tsiligkoudis (drums, vocals) – both active at various points in the Power Metal band HATRED – and joined by Lefteris from INVERACITY on guitars during live shows.
Despite the rather unimaginative band name and the member’s Power Metal background, BLOODGORE’s demo tapes are packed with gratifyingly brutal and well-written Death Metal. The music encompasses influences from both sides of the Atlantic, combining the old school violence of North American bands (SUFFOCATION, MALEVOLENT CREATION) with a European sense of melody (SINISTER, ASPHYX), all topped with hooks more at home in classic Thrash Metal (SLAYER). The band also did a couple of ripping gigs in their hometown of Kavala, one which led to the club owners being sued for noise pollution!
Old school maniacs who mourn the sterilized approach heard in modern Death Metal are advised to check out the demos “Skinned Beyond Recognition” (1997) and “Experiments on Flesh” (1999).
