BLACK VOYAGE (awesome name for a Metal band, isn’t it?) was an Athenian group that started out in late-1995, playing pure Heavy Metal. The earliest known constellation included Nikos Outsikas (vocals – BLOODLUST, CRYSTAL CLEAR, OUTCAST), George Maroulis (guitars), Vassilis Kostopoulos (guitars), Nikos Neochoritis (bass), Christos Stefanakis (drums) and Akis Kotas (keyboards). Their first demo tape came out the following year, entitled “The Eyes of Hate” (1996) and received fair reviews, although one reviewer said it is probably the least-good vocal contributions of the otherwise excellent singer Nikos Outsikas. In interviews, band excused the fact that Nikos, who’d recently joined the band, didn’t have enough time for preparation.
As is commonplace with Hellenic Metal groups, the “prospect” of military service was lurking behind the corner and Nikos had to resign his frontman position in the wake of the band’s debut demo. The ranks were further diminished around the same time with the departure of Akis Kotas, leaving the band without a permanent keyboard presense. It would take another three years before BLACK VOYAGE’s second demo “Nuclear Madness” (1999) saw the light of day. By this time, guitarist Vassilis Kostopoulos had given up his position to Takis Pagiatis, and the band had found a new singer in the form of Theodoros Valavanis (vocals – OVERLOAD). As it turned out, this would also prove to be the final release by the band as far as we are aware of.
